YEAR THREE:
Tsumugu sat in his room and did his homework.
It was a pretty uneventful year.
Tsumugu thought that it was because Mirador had finally agreed to sign a treaty, a few months ago, for a year unless someone crossed the border. That was made to stop illegal traders, Tsumugu figured.
Since most of the border was part of the sea, it wasn't a big problem for everyday citizens. Illegal trading was to be heavily maintained, though, and Tsumugu's homework these days consisted more and more of trading laws.
Suddenly Tsumugu herd faint footsteps and he saw that a few maids were at the door. They bowed to Tsumugu, saying that the king had requested him.
Tsumugu frowned, and stepped into his grandpa's room.
"Ah, Tsumugu."
"Yes?"
"Today's market day."
So that's what he meant.
Meaning with the illegal trading and all, someone had to check out the market and warn the traders who were being obvious about trading illegal goods.
Tsumugu had done this once before, he would write down the stall and the trader, and an imposing guard would either warn the trader or deny the trader permission to put their stall up, depending on the goods and number of warnings. (Tsumugu isn't scary enough cx)
"Should I go?" Tsumugu asked.
Isamu Kihara nodded. "Your father is coming tomorrow. Do it today."
"Alright."
Tsumugu's father was the real ruler of Ooshioshi, along with a few other neighboring kingdoms, but Tsumugu had decided to live with his grandpa, who governed only Ooshioshi.
Tsumugu's mother visited often, to ask him every time to consider coming back, but Tsumugu had never accepted her offer.
His father coming, on the other hand, was a special event, for Tsumugu's father was always busy with something as king.
As he walked down the hallway with his cloak and materials, Tsumugu wondered what had made his father want to come to Ooshioshi.
"Tsumugu-san!" A voice called from behind. Tsumugu turned around, though he already knew it was Chisaki.
"Are you going to the market too?" She asked. She was carrying a bag, for the goods Tsumugu suspected she was planning to buy.
"Yeah."
They walked out of the gate, and Chisaki looked back for her school friends that were coming with her. The girls tittered behind them, and Tsumugu ignored them even though he knew pretty much the topic of their laughter. It was Tsumugu and Chisaki's relationship, of course.
"You should get a free day sometimes." She said randomly. Apparently she had already noticed the pencils and materials that Tsumugu had brought. Tsumugu was a little startled as she yanked him out of his thoughts, but he regained his composure speedily.
"I don't mind it." The job let him get out of the house and talk to Chisaki, after all.
☂
At the door was a tall, stern-looking man, wearing some very formal attire. Every part of him seemed to give off cold vibes, but he was greeted quite warmly by the staff.
