Eighteen years and one incarnation had passed since their child, half time lord, half human, had been born. Only eighteen years old had Lavender been when the Daleks had killed her and her mother, far too young to die. It had broken the Doctor's heart, seeing the two people he loved more than anything in the universe die, knowing he would not be able to rescue them. He had done the one thing he could do to save them, the only thing he had been able to think of in his grief and pain. Up above in the sky, far away from the spot in space he had parked the Tardis, one could see two spiral galaxies, right next to each other, one shining in a rose gold and the other in a golden light. The population called them the Tyler and the Light galaxy, the most beautiful places in a large part of the universe. The Doctor threw one more glance at the beautiful spots above in the sky before he turned around and heavy-heartedly entered his Tardis again.

Not really knowing where to go next, he started walking up and down in the Tardis when suddenly, a reflection of light caught his attention. Curiously, the Doctor hurried over to the spot where he had seen the light. His breath caught as he noticed it was the pendant Kate had given him all those years ago. It hadn't turned in over ten years now. Slowly, the Doctor kneeled down and picked the pendant up, when a metallic noise of something landing on the floor caused him to jump up a bit. Eyes widened in shock, he stared at the broken piece of the pendant - it was the piece that used to indicate where Kate was. Carefully, he kneeled down and picked it up, reading the words on it over and over again: The light never fades. Then, he slipped the broken pieces into his pocket and went over to the door again. He pushed it open and looked at the stars in the sky, and it struck him that there were indeed things that lasted forever, and that there could be lights that would never fade, not ever, not in an eternity. Almost an eternity. And in this moment, for the first time in his life, for the first time in a thousand years, he thought that this almost could, maybe, just maybe be exactly the secret of all beauty and of all the wonderful things the universe held, and he planned to cling onto that for the rest of his life.
