Chapter Sixteen

“Wait you actually stabbed yourself?” Bonnie asked.

Elena nodded and then with a little shrug of her shoulders she said, “that’s why I asked you to bring the extra clothes.” She opened the jacket she had been wearing to show her friend the bloody hole the knife had made in her shirt. “Katherine fed me her blood to heal me, right after she agreed to let you come. I don’t actually remember that part but you’re here now and that’s all that matters.”

“Yeah, now I can get you out of here.” Bonnie agreed.

This time Elena shook her head, “I gave my word that I wouldn’t run, besides I don’t want to. If I can get this sacrifice to line up with the other one then we can go back to the original timeline.”

Bonnie looked as though she was about to argue but then thought better of it before saying, “we don’t know enough about the other one. The spell to make you see things is too exhausting for me to do again, I haven’t had the time to get my strength back.”

“I’m not asking you to do the spell again,” Elena replied looking horrified at the mere thought, “but I do need you to do something else.”

Looking at her friend apprehensively Bonnie nodded.

After taking a deep breath Elena said, “first you need to find Damon and tell him not to worry about me.”

“Why don’t you ask Katherine to bring him here so you can tell him that yourself?” Bonnie asked.

“Because he won’t let me stay here, there is no way he would let me even get close to the sacrifice,” Elena told her friend, “when you talk to him don’t tell him where I am, what I’m doing or what I asked you to do. Just make sure he knows I’m not in any danger.”

“Yeah because being held hostage by you boyfriend’s ex who happens to look just like you and your ex who may have gotten back together with her so that they can hand you over to a centuries old immortal hybrid to be sacrificed on an altar in the pinnacle of safety,” Bonnie snorted.

Despite herself Elena started laughing as she said, “well when you say it like that.”

For a moment it felt like it always had before all this crazy stuff had come into their lives. It was like they were sitting in Elena’s bedroom again giggling about boys. However that didn’t last long and soon the girls fell into an uncomfortable silence.

“And then after you talk to Damon I need you to find someone called Elijah.” Elena said lowering her voice slightly. She knew that even if Katherine and Stefan had broken their word and were listening to everything she said they would still hear her but she did it anyways.

“Who’s Elijah?” Bonnie asked her voice getting quieter as well.

“I don’t know everything or really anything about him,” Elena admitted, “but in my visions or whatever the hell they are called he was helping me. I trusted him then so I trust him now. So can you please try to find him and a way to get him here?”

“Okay, so let me get this straight. First talk to Damon for you, then track down so dude named Elijah?”

Elena nodded, god she seemed to be doing a lot of that. She then pulled Bonnie into a tight hug and whispered, “thanks Bon.”

Bonnie rubbed her back reassuringly and murmured, “I’d do anything to help Elena. Please don’t get yourself hurt.”

The hour Katherine had given them was almost up so after saying their last goodbyes Bonnie left Elena on the couch and started making her way towards the door. Just as her fingers were closing around the doorknob she turned back and said, “you didn’t tell me about Damon stopping by before I came yesterday.”
