A Throne of Fire and Blood

Chapter 3

Tianna sat on the stone block she called a bed. Thinking about what she had to do next. She knew she would be able to win the competition easily, but what after that? She had to serve the man who had destroyed everything she had ever known. But she would get through it, she would get through the 4 years and then she would be free.
        Tianna spent the night talking to the girl next to her, she wouldn't normally keep others awake as they all had to work from sunrise to sunset, no breaks in between. She only kept the girl awake as she could sense her death was near, the girl knew it too. They had been friends since the day the girl arrived a month ago but Tianna hadn't asked her name, she didn't want to grieve her when she died, or for the girl to grieve her if she finally died. Before Tianna went to sleep, she asked her what her name was, if she was going to leave this place, she wanted to know the name of the girl who kept her company for her final month.
'Rachael, my name is Rachael.' The girl told her.
'My names Tianna' she told her
'I know who you are, the lost girl from a conquered kingdom' Rachael said to her before she turned in her bed and went to sleep.
Tianna awoke at sunrise, the same time she always had. She got up from her bed and walked over to Rachael's bed and saw that she had passed in the night. Tianna looked up towards the exit of the section she was kept in and saw the guards and the main Overseerer of the section coming to collect her. She quickly took Rachael's hand and held them and kissed her forehead, "I will avenge your death, Rachael," Tianna looked around and saw that several others had died in the night, "I will avenge every life the King has taken. May you finally find peace in a place far from here." She rested Rachael's hands on her chest and went back to her own bed as the guards were close.
She sat waiting as the guards once again detached the chain from the ground, but they seemed less cautious, she guessed they knew she wouldn't risk everything in trying to escape. The Overseerer held her chains and stood close to Tianna and whispered in her ear, "I will be waiting for your return, Tianna Rhodes, I'll be waiting for when your body is the way it was a year ago when you first arrived, so I can have my way with you once more." His voice had nothing but cruelty in it and she couldn't stand the sight of him after what he did to her, what he does to all the newly arrived young girls. Everyone knew what he was like, yet whenever he did anything, everyone turned a blind eye. He slid his hand down her side, a place where there was once beautiful curves but now there was nothing but bones there.
"Who said I would be returning?" She gave him an evil look.
"Of course you will return, my young dove, it would be foolish to think any differently," he turned to look at her, eye to eye, "Your just not cut out for the big world out there." She didn't have anything to say to him, she didn't want to argue as she thought he was right, what if she wasn't cut out for the world. No. She would show him she is able. She would show them all as she is Tianna Rhodes and she will not be afraid.
