Nick's POV

"Nick, my man. Pass the cigar." Jonathan says, loudly.

"Here, man." I chuckle before handing it to him.

"This is the life." He says.

"Ya bet, Jonathan." Kevin coughs.

"Look over there!" Christopher says, nodding his head at the red head girl.

"Christopher, you girl magnet." Kevin laughs.

My phone rings. "I'll be back, lads."

They keep on babbling about the red head girl across us. I walk a little bit far from them. I tap on answer

"Hello?"

"Where are you?!" He yells.

"I'm not home." I answer, coolly.

"Of course you're not! I NEED TO TALK TO YOU!"

"Not now, dad! I'm busy!" I argue.

"COME HOME OR I'LL CALL THE POLICE."

I laugh. "Why are you calling the police? I'm not a criminal."

"This is the first time I want to say that I am ashamed that you are my son!" He yells angrily before ending the call.

I shove my phone back in my pocket. I walk back to my new friends. "Hey Nick. Why the long face?"

"Nothing." I say, grabbing the cigarette from Jonathan. I puff out smoke, Kevin starts coughing again.

"Man. You're mad." Kevin says.

"I'm just living the life, okay?" I reply, angrily. I continue smoking.

"Did your girlfriend break up with you?" Christopher asks, laughing.

"I DON'T HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!" I snap.

"What about that girl we talked about last few days? I believe her name is Kaylee." Jonathan smirks.

"I think it's Karrie!" Kevin laughs.

"Don't you dare talk about Katie!" I shout.

"Why so sensitive, my friend?" Christopher chuckles.

"She doesn't mean anything to me anymore." I lie. She means everything to me.

Jonathan whistles. "You finally moved on!" I haven't and I never will.

"Yeah. I did." I lie.

*

I close the door and remove my sneakers. I walk towards the stairs, but I hear someone calling me.

"Nick?"

I turn my head to the left. "Hey Leila."

"Where have you been?" She asks, innocently.

I approach her. "I met up with some friends of mine."

"Who are they?"

"They're from school." I lie.

"Why do you smell like. . ." She sniffs. "Smoke?"

"Well. Kevin's neighbor burned their tree." I lie again.

"Did you wash the fire out?" She smiles.

I shook my head. "No."

"Why?"

"Because some things are too late to be saved." I say.

She yawns, I smile. "It's time for you to sleep."

"I'm not yet -" She yawns again. "Okay. I'm sleepy. Good night, Nick."

"Good night, little angel." I say, kissing her forehead. She starts running up to her room. I hear her door close. I sigh.

Little Angel. That's what I called Katie when we were in her room. When I helped her with her white dress' ribbon. I shook my head. Enough with this. I'm done with Katie. No you're not.

I walk up to my room. Finally. I lock my door. I open the lights. I spot something shiny on the floor. I kneel down to get it. I stare at it. This is my anklet. I run a finger on it. I wonder if she still wears the bracelet. I pick it up and hide it in my drawer. I sit on the floor and rubbed my temples. I stare at the mirror across me. I don't see myself in it, I see her. I see her smiling at me, her smile fades. I see her staring right back at me. I close my eyes.

I don't want to think about her.

Maybe for now, maybe for a few days or maybe forever.
