CHAPTER 3

Okay, my dear readers, here's the thing.

This little chapter is quite a doozy. Believe me. But please continue reading it.

I can assure you that it will all make sense in the future. I just have to hope whatever I was trying to lay out here makes sense to you as it does so in my brain.

Thanks!

Throughout his last class Knox couldn't sit still. His legs had been shaking, his feet were tapping on the floor, and his pen clicking in his hand too loud, making a turbulent noise. Every time somebody even dared to look at him he growled back at them harshly and sending them angry glares, instantly making others flinch uncomfortably in their seats. Knox was too nervous and very much of a wreck and for once he really didn't want school to end today.

For one, Knox had been searching - with little dignity he had to not look like a crazy person - for the scent he’d smelled this morning throughout lunch period. He didn't have the time to spend on having lunch with his friends as he knew he needed to scour the whole school for it. He of course went to the cafeteria first to search for it, whoever the scent came from, but to no avail. The scent was there, though, faintly. He’d heard his friends calling for him nonstop from their table to eat lunch together, but ignored them completely. He even went through every single building and everywhere he could think of where students would have lunch, but the further away he got from the cafeteria the less intense the scent had gotten, no matter how faint it was to begin with. Knox was very sure he had looked like a lunatic stomping around the school corridors with his nose up, scrunching, trying to smell things, but he just didn't care. Finally when the bell rang he had to stop looking and went to his next class. He had failed to find his mate and he knew he had failed miserably at that.

Secondly, Knox was edgy because once the school was over he had to go see The Oracle. He knew his father must have told the creepy old lady to expect his son to see her this evening, and therefore he must be there. Knox didn't want to but he had to. It was a must! He knew not to get his father riled up and angry at him as he’d seen what kind of monster his father could become.

Then the bell rang, signaling the school session was over for today. After Knox gathered his books, he walked over to his locker and opened it to store them. He then sullenly retrieved his jacket and helmet, and walked out of the school toward his motorbike. His friends were all there, waiting patiently for him.

“What’s with the face, Knox?” asked Rhydian, sounding too happy for Knox’s taste. Rhydian then pushed for more. “It couldn't have been Wendy, is it?”

Knox growled quite loudly, slightly annoyed at his friend and at the thought of his ex-girlfriend Wendy. “No!” he exclaimed. “It’s not that. I've just got something my dad asked me to do. That’s all.”

“Tsk. Tsk. Tsk,” Jackson clacked with his tongue. “Sorry to hear that buddy. Well, I have some Beta training to do after this. And later, Knox, if you want you can come on over to my bro’s house and join all of us for er…some fun and relief. You're too tensed, and you could definitely use some of that. Right, Rhydian?” Jackson asked while clapping once on Knox’s shoulder. Rhydian grinned smugly and nodded.
