"Javrail your ride is here!"

My mother always yelled in the mornings about my ride to school as if I don't have a big ass picture window in my bedroom. Obviously I know exactly who's here, but I guess you can say that's part of the reason why I love this woman so much.

As I struggled to put the remainder of supplies in my backpack she burst through my room door like SWAT.

"Boy didn't you hear what I said? I could've sworn I didn't give birth to any deaf children."

This is what I labeled the morning ritual, it knocks away every bit of sleep I have left from underneath my eyelids. I live for this though, so I have to be sure that I cherish every last one of these moments.

"Ma' I heard you, I was just on my way down until you busted my door of it's hinges. I'm pretty sure SWAT could use you, try giving them a call today."

I flashed a cocky smile, kissed her on the cheek, slid down the banister and out the door before she had a chance to respond. I swear I loved that lady with all of my soul.

"Yo, Zimboy we gone be late, let's go!"

I always carpooled with the same crazy people. My partner Reginald known as "Riginal." He's like one of those funny "Black Power" type nigga's. Everything that he recites he "claims" it to be original. Then there's the twins, Dani and Dana, beautiful as hell but way too demanding. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell we became friends in the first place. Lastly, it's my boy Delvin. Delvin's more like the "gambler" or the "risk taker". I can never miss a beat in my step with these fools.

I hopped in the backseat and proceeded to give hugs and dap while I bobbed my head to the music that was on low.

"Riginal turn that up man, got to get right before walking through the gates of opportunity."

"Yeah well next time yo' ole young ass gone get left."

Riginal glanced at me through the rearview mirror then turned to me from the driver's seat,

"How your fine ass mama doing this morning?"

Still bobbing my head I instantly pulled out my cellphone,

"You want me to call her out here so you can ask her yourself?"

He slowly turned back around and turned the music up. One thing about Reginald is he knew not to deal with my mother on a personal level. He had thought her to be crazy after having a head on confrontation with her about me being out so late and returning home wasted. I use her to my advantage whenever I don't have too much to say to Riginal.

"So Zimboy, you know we have a pop quiz for Mr. Tyson's class, you think you ready?"

Dani then gave me the most condescending smile because she knew I hadn't studied. I mean, I had totally forgotten. I was so wrapped up in football practice that it slipped my mind about the biggest quiz that could possibly determine rather I'm drafted or not. Of course I can't let these clowns know I'm off my game so I have to pretend, it's only for a little while though. I cleared my throat before responding,
