I sat in my living room talking to my mother for hours about how Papa had let power take over and how he was nothing like the man she married. We were also talking about me divorcing Zimboy. I told her I was going to do it because I was so tired of the Q&A everyone had been bombarding me with. The whole situation was becoming too overwhelming for me. In order for me to tell her that I was divorcing Zimboy, I had to put my personal feelings, past and memories behind me. Of course she protested about my decision, she felt that I was only doing this because Papa was putting a lot of pressure on me.

Ever since he stepped off the bench from being the judge they immediately begin packing. They were just waiting on my decision to know whether I was leaving with them or not. I still haven't heard no word about Zimboy and Papa was becoming extremely impatient with me and I kind of understood why. My mother grabbed her purse and pulled out a brown envelope. I felt a sickness in the pit of my stomach because I felt as though I was truly being rushed and it almost didn't feel fair. Without any words I got up and grabbed the pen. I grabbed the envelope from the table and opened it spilling the contents on the table,

"Royal sweetie what are you doing?"

Without looking at her I responded while grabbing the papers off the table to read them,

"Giving you and Papa what you want."

She looked at me puzzled and crossed her legs as she leaned back in her seat. I was confused reading the divorce papers. I couldn't understand why my parents names were on the paper,

"Mom I don't understand. Where do I sign?"

I looked at her,

"You don't sweetheart. Those are my divorce papers."

I dropped the papers and my hands flew over my mouth,

"Royal why do you think I was talking your head off about your father for hours? I was trying to get your opinion on things before I went through with it."

I stared at my mother and it was as though I was looking at her for the first time,

"Oh my God, Mommy!"

I ran to her and hugged her. After the embrace she grabbed my face as I sat next to her,

"Sweetie I can't be your father's shadow anymore. I'd rather live the rest of my days happy and alone then to be with someone who only brings me misery."

A tear escaped my right eye,

"Does Papa know anything?"

She looked at the floor,

"No, he doesn't Royal. He thinks I'm moving out of the state with him but I don't want to be nowhere near that man. I've grown to hate his guts and I'm ready to wash my hands of his sins."

My mother and I embraced again. She smiled at me,

"Royal baby don't divorce that boy. You never know what God has up his sleeve. Just be patient and stop getting so worked up about what people want you to do with your life. You're the one who has to live your life and no one else."

She grabbed my hands and kissed them,

"And darling no matter what happens between your father and I we will always love you okay?"

I wiped away the tears,

"Yes ma'am. I love you too mommy."

She let go of my hands and stood up,

"Now... don't you have a performance tonight?"

I frantically looked at my watch 7:15 p.m.

"Oh shoot! I totally forgot! Oh my goodness I'm going to be late."

My mother grabbed the envelope and stuffed it back into her purse,

"Do you mind if I come to support you?"

I slowly turned to face my mother,

"Are you sure? That's no place for a seventy-two year old woman."

She giggled and waved her hand at my comment,

"Royal it's time I enjoyed the little life I have left in me, I'll wait here for you to get dressed. I would like to accompany you if you don't mind?"

I clasped my hands together and smiled,

"I wouldn't love nothing more!"

I ran upstairs and got dressed. I was going to make tonight count and the song that I was performing, I was going to put my heart into it. Even though I should let go my mother had given me a little bit of hope. After I was dressed I ran downstairs and grabbed my keys,

"Come on mother, we're running late."

My mother wasn't moving so I approached her,

"Royal there's something I need to tell you that your father never wanted you to find out."

"What is it?"

She grabbed my hand,

"It's about your uncle."

I frowned,

"But I don't have an-"

"I'll explain everything to you on the way to your event."

Great, another secret. When does it end?
