Chapter 6

It's been a few days since that test and today we're getting the grades...I think the class is more concerned for our grades than they are for theirs...
It was the end of the period and the teacher began calling out people to go up and take their tests, L had already got his, but refused to show me until I got mine

"Light Yagami" The teacher called

"Exited?" L asked as I got up

"Of corse not..." I was, but like hell I would admit it to him

I walked up to the teacher and got my test...
A 99... I felt a sense of dread go over my body. I looked through the test to see what was wrong, it was a question I answered wrong, but since I showed the work I got partial credit... A 99, the most annoying grade anyone could ever get, whatever there's no way L got 100....Right?

"By the look on your face, I can tell your disappointed. You got a bad grade?" L said as I sat down and showed him the paper

"99."

His face, still unreadable, I couldn't tell if he was surprised or relieved or anything...He's so hard to read, and I hate that about him.
He finally revealed his paper...
an 100... only then, small curves formed at the end of his lips

"Looks like I win"

"Damn it" I muttered under my breath and sighed "Well, what do you want me to do" I said, clearly annoyed

"Hmm..." he dragged his thumb against his bottom lip and starred at the ceiling "I don't really know, I haven't thought about that yet"

"S-Seriously?!-"

"Oh well" he stood up

"What do you mean "oh well"?! Just think of something, anything!... Like, doing your homework?"

"Mmm...Too easy"

"S....Scrubbing your toilet?" I can not believe I just said that-

"That's inhuman-"

"Bringing you candy?"

"...Tempting, but no..." he put his bookbag over his back "Then, I guess you'll just have to hang around me until I think of something"

"Wha- You have to be kidding?!"

"Nope, we'll then Light-kun...Shall we get going?"

We had lunch next, and he walked right by my side... right next to me, so close... Does he know anything about personal space?? We're walking so close anyone assume that we're a cou...No, no no no no NO, I refuse to let my mind go there

"Do we have to walk like this?" I asked

"Of corse, You never know when I could get an idea. When I do, I want you to be here"

"But, What does that have to do...With you...walking so...close-" The last part came out part came out more like asked whisper and my cheeks felt warm again. Damn it why didn't I say it, If I did he might have backed off a little. But for some reason, now I don't really want him to move away...

We finally got to the Cafeteria, I got the basic Lunch while L... just got a bunch of sweets. I didn't say anything after all im not one to judge his eating habits. Who knows maybe he has low blood sugar levels or-

"Light-kun, where are you sitting?" He asked

"Uh...over there" I pointed to at table, located right in the middle of the cafeteria

"Let's go then"

We have to sit together too?!...Great, just great.

"Liiiiiight!!" Misa yelled, waving her arms

Me and L sat down

"L, you're sitting with us today?" Takada asked

"Yes, Light owes me a favor but I still haven't decided what I wanted him to do for me-"

"EHHH?!" Misa's eyes widened and her cheeks went red

"...You're mind is going in all the wrong places Misa..." I said to her

"Aha...haha..Yeah" She calmed down

"A favor? What happened" Takada asked

"We had a competition, whoever got a higher score on a test would have to do the other a favor, I got an 100 and Light got a 99"

"Wait...Light lost??!!" Misa jaw dropped

"Yeah Yeah... Whatever it's just a favor, and just a test. I'll definitely get him next time"

"Next time huh?" He asked

"Still, you must be pretty mad" Takada asked me, concerned

"...Not really, I guess it's nice having an opponent for once... Ah-"

Shit.
Now I felt my whole face heat up.
I can't believe I actually said...And in front of him to make matters worse!!

I slightly tilted my head to see his reaction...
Nothing...his usual, and annoying, poker face just starring it me for a while, before turning back to sweets

I groaned and covered my face, feeling my face grow hotter by the second

It's the end of the day, and L still hasn't thought of anything... We walk to our lockers to get our stuff and now it just feels awkward. I look at him and he seems to be a little out of it, he's just starring down at the floor

"L?..."

"Ah...Yes, Light?"

Hestopped with the honorifics, somethings definitely wrong

"You seem a little off"

"Oh, it's nothing" We finally got to our lockers and started getting our things together "I was just thinking"

Making our way out of the school, I guess I'll say something to not make it awkward

"Thinking what..?"

"...Just thinking, I was wondering which one of us would win in a chess game" he looked at me "It's my favorite board game, I've never been beaten, I was wondering how you would do against me, what kind of strategies would you use... and if you would win"

"Shouldn't you be thinking of what you want me to do?"

He stopped walking

"It's think that's it... Yes."

"Hm?" I turn around

"Play chess with me, Light" he smiled
