sunny afternoon- red velvet
3rd Person POV
On the Saturday after Bangtan, Soyoung and Eunjin went to the mall, Soyoung woke up very tired at around 10:30 in the morning. She cursed herself for not being able to go back to sleep for a little longer, and after reevaluating every one of her life choices in bed, she finally got up.
She went straight to her kitchen, hoping to find her single mother sitting at the island and watching the TV while sipping an aromatic cup of coffee, so she could join her. However when she went down the stairs that lead straight to the food heaven, she was greeted by a lonely and cold image and a note that read things about 'work' and 'love' and 'be back soon' though none of those words silenced the vague sadness Soyoung felt. She ignored it however, since this happened often, and looked for food to at least silence her stomach that had been yelling at her from the inside to feed him. He's a hungry boy and he needs his nutrition. Soyoung let out a chuckle thinking about her personified stomach. If she couldn't make herself laugh, then who would?
These were the thoughts that ran through Soyoung's head as she made her way through her vast, lonely kitchen to her favorite object in the house; her fridge. She let out a battle cry when she opened the fridge and it had let her down. Apart from a half empty bottle of water and an egg, her fridge was empty. Soyoung was tall, thin, and had an athletic build, but that did not mean that she could not eat. In fact, in her most humble opinion, eating was the best thing she could do. Therefore, an egg would not suffice!
Soyoung instead went straight upstairs and got ready to go out and buy groceries. She knew her mother would be too busy to buy groceries through the week, so the least Soyoung could do was buy them for her. Her mom was a hard worker, and Soyoung knew she deserved a break, but her mother would never allow herself to do that. She walked into her bathroom, brushed her teeth, washed her face, and applied light make up; blush, eyeliner, mascara, eyebrows, and a tinted lip balm. She chose a white-ish creme colored skirt that showed off her long legs, and an oversized light blue t-shirt as her outfit. She merely brushed her long, dark brown hair and put it into a high ponytail.
Contrary to Eunjin, who was short, girly, and had short, light brown hair with see through bangs, Soyoung was tall and athletic, making the two complete opposites in appearance, other than the fact that they're both fair skinned. They're not very similar in personality either. While Eunjin is sarcastic and reserved, Soyoung is outgoing and friendly with people who aren't her close friends. The only sure sign that shows that Soyoung cares about you more than just any other person is that when she becomes attached to you, she becomes a person of who's very open and lacks a filter, her thoughts, weird and rude and all, pour out. In personality, again, the only thing that ties them together is the fact that they're both very honest and fiercely loyal.
Soyoung often wonders why such different people would be friends in the first place, but after she sees Eunjin, she doesn't question it any further. Soyoung, though friendly, is not one to express her feelings very often. She is no different when it comes to Eunjin, but she always knows what Eunjin is thinking even before Eunjin herself realizes it, and she knows that Eunjin appreciates her and understands that she loves her, even if she doesn't say it out loud often.
These are the things Soyoung thought about as she finished getting ready. Finally, Soyoung grabbed her purse and made sure to pack her debit card from it's hiding place (she only used this for groceries every week or so), and headed out. She walked to the super market, making a list of the things she needed on her way there: eggs, milk, rice, mixed vegetables, etc.
Soyoung walked around the super market, picking out only the vegetables that appealed to her eyes the most. Having bought the groceries for years now since her mother is always working, Soyoung has grown an eye for picking out the freshest things offered in the stores. She was nearly half way through her list when she was called by a voice that sounded all too familiar.
Fetus? Is that you?
It really was him, though he really wasn't very much of a fetus. Jungkook, or angel deer or Googie as he thought his name should be pronounced in English, was tall and lean and muscular and handsome, but he was very much not a fetus. Soyoung was tall, but Jungkook was taller. She was his noona, but it didn't really seem like it. Jungkook was nearly good at everything, and if he wasn't good at something, it was probably because he hadn't tried it yet.
Despite all of this, the previous day, Jungkook and Soyoung had found they had a lot in common and enjoyed much of the same things. Despite being alone with a boy at the mall the previous day, Soyoung was not nervous in the slightest, as the boy was someone who she was already somewhat attached to and somewhat comfortable with. They joked and laughed at the same things, and they both knew that there was something going on in between their three other friends that they themselves did not know of. One could say that in their group of friends, they're the most knowing. They got along well, and Soyoung appreciated him very much, though the only way to show it was, of course, to playfully insult him.
"Morning, Soyoung-ah."
"Excuse me?" she could not help the smile on her face as she began her teasing of him.
"What?"
"Do I know you? I don't think I do. You see, I don't associate myself with little children such as yourself." Jungkook who had been throwing the most shade ever seen on a face like his, cracked his biggest smile, spreading from ear to ear, and showing his adorable bunny teeth. Soyoung could not help but blush at this act. It was just too cute.
"Soyoung-ah!"
"What are you doing? I don't even know you and you're already speaking to me informally?" They began to laugh together very loudly at some points and breathlessly at others, making jokes about how stupid the other looks while laughing, and then laughing more. It was if they were best friends, with the way they laughed together. But as they laughed, Jungkook could not help but notice how beautiful his friend looked. Though not his ideal type, the skirt she was wearing that revealed her legs suited her figure very well, and her oversized shirt balanced the glamour of the skirt. He wondered what she would look like in his shirts and hoodies, and smiled to himself. He did not realize that she had stopped laughing and was now looking at him and trying to snap him out of his stares, the smile not absent from her face.
"Hello? Take a picture, it'll last longer."
"No thank you, I don't want to crack my camera." Soyoung smacked him playfully in the arm and they began to walk together around the super market. After going here and there for things that one or the other needed, they both became incredibly hungry. They ordered food from one of the street food stalls and as Soyoung took out her money to pay for her food, Jungkook told her,"I got it," and he smiled at her as he paid for their food. Soyoung could have kissed him then and there. His smile dazzled her AND it did so as he paid for her food. She saw light from the cloudy sky shine down on him brightly. Instantly, she saw him in a new light, and all of this and this entire reaction was because he paid for her food. However her feelings didn't start here, they were realized here. She then thought to all the times spent with him, and how it was different from when she spent time with all of Bangtan and Eunjin together. She always felt different around him and now she knew why. She had developed extra feelings.
'This is too much, Soyoung. Are you serious right now? ' she thought to herself.
Meanwhile as Jungkook paid for Soyoung's food, he could not help but smile at her realization. Of course he had noticed it was different from when he was with Eunjin as opposed to Soyoung. Soyoung herself had not realized it until now, but Jungkook suspected it would only be a matter of time before she realized her feelings. What he didn't expect was that she would realize it when he paid for her food. Though when he thought about it more, it didn't surprise him.
'Its one of the things I like about her.' was what Jungkook thought as he watched her enjoy her food, smiling.
And although these feelings were quite important to the both of them, at the moment, none of them said anything about this. All they did and all they wanted to do was enjoy the food in front of them and the other's presence.
