*Harry’s pov*
Its been two weeks and I haven’t hear anything from Ellie. I had to go all the way to Chelsea, a place called 404, where the corporate gathering was going to be held. I was going to drop off the pieces she ordered, and even though I’d only be seeing here for 10 minutes or so, I was getting anxious. My whole body was humming, my thoughts were scrambled, and I was racing against the New York traffic to get to Ellie. I couldn’t wait to see her bright smile, and hear her soft voice. When I got to the venue, I saw Ellie with a black and white dress, hugging her every curve perfectly. When I stepped out of the car, she noticed me. She ran over to where I was parked, helping me take the pieces from the back.
“Thanks” I said once we were inside the building. The tension was suffocating.
“You’re welcome” she nodded and headed over to a corner of the room where I followed her; placing them against a wall.
We stood across from each other for a while, both looking for something to say. “The party is tomorrow night” she began, “And I was wondering -- if you aren’t busy of course -- if you can come?” she rubbed her hands together, warming them from the harsh winter cold.
“I would love to” I smiled at her. You couldn’t help but smile with her.
“Great! it starts at 7 p.m.” she said while biting her upper lip. “Oh, and if you’d like, you can bring a date!” she added. I nodded, though I knew I wasn’t going to bring a date. Not when she’s all that occupies my mind.
“I’ll see you tomorrow night, Ellie.” I said before pressing my lips upon her cheek. I lingered a bit, enjoying the closeness, wishing to have her wrapped in my arms, and my lips on hers. When I pulled away, I made a quick exit, not wanting to stay for the awkward aftermath of my impulsive actions.
It was the night of the party for J.J. Hayes Inc. and I had an hour until it started, I was a nervous wreck. I’d been ready since 5 o’clock and I since then I’ve been debating whether or not I was wearing the proper attire for the occasion. I was wearing a white button-up shirt and a pair of black jeans. It wasn’t much, but I was hoping it was enough to impress Ellie and her father.
Honestly, I shouldn’t even be going. I mean, all the people there will be rich, old men that are no doubt snobby and will judge me the whole time I’m there. The only reason I’m even going is because Ellie invited me. I didn’t want to upset her by not showing up, and I was also dying to see her. I hope I will be able to spend more time with Ellie, and that her and her boyfriend aren’t going to be all over each other throughout the night.
I checked the time and realized that maybe I should be leaving now if I want to get there on time. I grab my things, and head out the door. Hopefully this night is one to remember.
*Ellie’s POV*
The party has been a huge success so far. I knew I chose the right venue. People seem to be having a good time and I’m glad it turned out so great. The only problem was that I haven’t had a chance to talk to Harry yet. Some people loved his work and have been talking to him the whole time he’s been here. I was kind of hoping to keep him to myself throughout the night. There’s over 30 people talking to him as of now, so I might not be able to talk to him anytime soon.
I’d been standing alone, in a little corner in the room. I always hated going to things like these. Kind of funny that now I’m planning events just like these now, huh? I always end up alone and have to wait for Connor to be ready to leave in order to get home.
“Elizabeth, you should be mingling. It will give you an opportunity to promote your company.” Connor said as he pulled me into a tight embrace. I looked up at him to give him a small smile, and saw he had his ‘business face’ on.
“I’m not here to promote my company, Connor. I’m here to enjoy myself and watch my hard work pay off.” I remind him. He rolled his eyes and left to talk to some co-workers. So I went to go out and get some fresh air. While I was enjoying the view, I heard a voice I’d been dying to hear all night.
“There she is!” Harry said from the glass door. “You know, I’ve been looking for you.” I watched him walk towards me, his dimpled smile on full display.
“I was getting bored in there. Besides, it’s nicer out here.” I responded. It was then I noticed the camera in his hands. “Have you been taking pictures all night?”
“Of course, I couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by.” He said matter-of-factly. I nodded and turned my attention back to the lights of New York. Moments later, my thoughts were interrupted by the sound of clicking. I turned to see Harry holding his camera in front of his face.
“Did you just take a picture of me?” He nodded, a smirk plastered on his face, green eyes glinting under the city lights.
“Sorry. Couldn’t help myself.” he most definitely was not sorry if that devilish look on his face was anything to go by.
“It’s fine. What other photos have you captured tonight?” I was dying to have him show me something, but he just shrugged his shoulders.
“Nothing you’d be interested in, babe.” he smiled slightly, quickly taking his eyes off me. He was obviously uncomfortable, so I changed the subject.
“Are you having a good time?” he looked back at me.
“I am now.” goosebumps broke out on my skin, and I wanted nothing more than to kiss him. There was something about him, something different, that made me want to be around him all the time. This feeling was new to me, and I was truthfully scared of how comfortable I was to someone who was practically a stranger.
“You look beautiful.” Harry said softly after a while. I noticed just then that we’d been staring at each other for quite some time.
“Do you want to have lunch with me Monday?” I asked hesitantly. Truthfully, I had no idea why I asked that. All I knew was that I couldn’t fathom the idea of this being the last we’d see of each other.
“Okay. But this time I’m paying.” He said sternly. I couldn’t keep the smile that broke out on my face; he had no idea how attractive he was.
“Fine. But I want Chinese.” I told him before grabbing his arm and leading him to one of the chairs placed outside. I sat next to him, and made sure our knees were touching.
We talked about nothing and everything for a long while; occasionally there’d be a comfortable silence between us. During those quiet times we’d watch the people laughing and talking amongst each other. We stayed like this till 11. I looked down and noted that our fingers were entwined, and his thumb was rubbing soothing circles on my hand. Though every nerve within me begged to stay close to him like this, I knew I had to go look for Connor before he found me. I pulled away, and Harry stood from the chair. He pulled me into a tight embrace. I was surrounded by his manly scent and the pleasant heat emitting from his body.
“I’ve got to go, Harry. I’ll see you Monday.” I mumbled into his chest, snuggling closer into him.
“Okay. Goodnight, Ellie.” He kissed the top of my head and pulled away. I quickly made my way inside and searched for Connor. I needed to get out of there before I ended up kissing Harry in front of all Connor’s colleagues.
“Elizabeth, ready to leave?” Connor came up next to me, holding my coat out for me to put on. I nodded silently and slipped the coat on. Connor wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me into him. I quickly leaned up to press my lips against his, part of me wishing those lips belonged to a certain photographer.
