It had been a lonely day, as was all the days. Lonely days turned into lonely weeks, and lonely weeks into lonely years.

Lonely is all I've ever known, being the only dryad in the forest doesn't help. Not many people visit this part of the woods, and I've explored ever inch of it in my 24 years of life.

"If only I had some company." I huffed, sitting upon my oak tree gazing up at the moon. "But I guess, this isn't so bad, it could be worse."

Although I didn't quite know what worse would be considering my sheltered life. I've heard whispers of trees being cut down, I suppose that would be worse.

The next morning, as if my wish had been granted, a boy came tearing through the forest. He stopped not far from my tree to rest. I treaded causiously over to the boy, peeking my head out from behind a great birch.

He was a short but built young man. His hair was a light brown and poked out from beneath his hat.

I wondered why a young man like himself was doing out in this part of the woods. Maybe he was lost or being chased? Whatever the reason I slightly worried, however I still wanted to observe him. Talking could prove too deadly. I tried to talk to a human once, it didn't end well.

I creeped out from behind the tree and dashed toward another, successfully reaching it before he turned around.

"Who's there?" The boy cried out, turning in all directions.

I stepped back hoping to conseal myself but luck wasn't on my side. A small twig snapped from beneath my foot making a loud crack.

The young man whipped his head in my direction, quickly walking over to me.

I wanted to run but I was frozen in place, unable to move.

The boy poked his head from the other side of the tree his eyes widening in surprise. I wondered what he was thinking, seeing a girl dressed in leaves must be strange.

After a moment I regained the use of my limbs and back away in fear.

"I won't hurt you." He said suddenly, realizing he must have frightened me. "What... what are you?"

I kept walking until there were multiple trees between us before answering. "I am a dryad."

"Really? Do you have a name?" He asked.

I nodded.

"Well what is it?"

"It's y/n." I whispered, staring at the ground.

"You have a beautiful name. I'm Minseok." He responded with a smile.

I blushed. "Ah thank you."

"Are you afraid of me?" He asked softly, taking a step closer.

"Yes."

Minseok furrowed his eyebrows. "Why?"

"Because people can be cruel." I said, my heart pounding.

Shouts could be heard in the distance and I could faintly make out the name Minseok. It must be his friends. When he turned to face whoever was calling him I dispersed. Letting my spirit find its way back to my tree.

This was probably the most terrifying experience of my life, but it was also the best. Half of me wished Minseok would return, maybe it be nice to talk to him.

The next day the trees started to whisper. Telling me a person was entering the woods. I knew he was here before I saw him.

To my surprise he yelled my name. "Y/n! Y/n!" Minseok shouted, over and over again.

I appeared behind him, poking my head out from behind a large bush. "Yes." I called.

He turned around and smiled. "It's nice to see you again. You left before you could meet my friends."

"I do not wish to meet your friends."

He frowned. "Oh, I understand."

Silence engulfed the forest. Only the russling of leaves was heard. I causiously walked up to him and took his hand. Pulling him to a nearby pond.

"Why did you come back?" I demanded, curiosity getting the best of me.

"I don't know really. I just, ended up here." Minseok answered, pausing for a moment. "You are very beautiful."

I stood there, month wide open. How can he think I'm beautiful? I stared at my reflection in the pond. My y/h/c hair was decorated with bright pink flowers and I wore a dress of deep green leaves. Maybe I was pretty, in a way.

"Thank you."

Minseok came to visit me many more times throughout the week. Once he even brought a book. Unfortunately I could not read, so each day he would read a chapter to me. We would sit in the shade of my tree, and read. This week's book was full of fairytails, which I enjoyed very much. There were stories of mermaids, kings, queens, and all sorts of creatures.

Over time I began to fall in love with him. Although I knew it was stupid of me to do so I couldn't stop it from happening. I always found myself gazing at his soft features, everytime he spoke it was as if music poured from his lips.

"You're not listening are you?" Minseok teased, poking my shoulder.

"No I'm listening." I lied, resting my head on his shoulder.

He only chuckled in response and continued to read.

Years passed and his visits never lessened, in fact they increased. Minseok came to see me almost everyday. We didn't read as much as we used too, however we did talk more. He told me about the world existing outside the forest. It was magnificent, oh how I wished I could see it with my own eyes.

"Does it ever get tiresome here? Don't you ever want to leave?" Minseok asked curiously.

"Yes, sometimes I wish I could visit your world. But the forest is all I've ever known, I don't know if I could ever leave." I answered quietly.

"Can you leave?"

"No."

He frowned. "That's too bad. It would've been fun, showing you everything. Just you and me."

I sighed. "Yes, it would have."

That summer I noticed my trees leaves with starting to fall. It's too early. I thought. This shouldn't be happening. It wasn't until later I realized my tree was dying and in turn, I would die.

I tried to keep this from Minseok for as long as I could. I didn't want to worry him. When fall arrived almost all the leaves were gone and I knew this would be my last winter.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Minseok shouted, running a hand through his hair.

"I'm sorry." I whispered, struggling to stay alert. I was starting to drift away into nothingness.

He sat down beside me and pulled me into his arms. "Don't leave." Minseok pleaded. "I love you."

"I know." I smiled. "Don't forget me ok?"

"I won't." He promised, kissing my forehead.

"I love you."

"I know." He said with tears in his eyes.

I sucked in one last breath of fresh air, savouring every smell before closing my eyes.

It's Thanksgiving weekend! Thankfully I don't have too much homework so I'll have time to finish a request.

I played with the idea to make a more mythical oneshot. I hope you all enjoyed it! The whole thing feels kinda rushed and I apologize!
