Chapter 3

Chapter 3: The Call

Seth and I were exploring the woods, just looking for something to do, no offense to Nessie, but watching her and Jacob make out so wasn't pleasant. I don't know if Seth has realized that I'm not exactly like the Cullens, or if he has, he doesn't care.

Leah always gives me a whole hearted glare.... Well, when she's not giving t to someone else, she tends to glare more at Nessie than me though, which is odd.

I was suddenly brought from my brooding by a dull pain. I looked around me, first thing I noticed is that I was on the ground, and there was a massive tree in front of me.

I blushed fiercely, please tell me I didn't just run into a tree.

My gaze moved to Seth who was staring at me with wide eyes," Did you just run into a tree?"

I wanted to slap myself, "No... The tree ran into me."

He laughed," I don't think they do that."

I snorted," Whatever."

He laughed even harder now, even going as far as gripping his torso and bending over.

I had the urge to shove him into a tree, so I jumped at him. He was unprepared and we hit the ground, He stopped his chuckling since we were inches away from each other, our noses were nearly touching.

For some reason he started leaning in, so did I, but I guarantee it was for different reasons. My throat was on fire and I was about to drain him. I jerked myself away from him and into a standing position in a fraction of a second.

" I'm sorry... I have to go." I ran off to go hunt.

I knew Seth would never want me if he found out I had killed humans before, yet here I was, draining a poor guy behind a movie theater.

At the castle I'd actually had willing feeders around, since I hadn't venom, here I was forced to kill.

At this very moment, I hated myself, Seth was born to protect my prey.... Would I ever have someone who loves me for me? I guess I'd never know, although there is Dimitri...

If he survives the attack that is. I throw my kill down at that thought, and ran to the Cullens' home. Everyone was in the living room, it was pretty quite.

Esme and Rosalie were talking to Edward as Nessie and Jake whispered and kissed. Leah stood looking uncomfortable as she brooded in a corner. Seth and Caden sat on the couch mindlessly watching tv. I sighed as my phone rang, and whipped it into my hand.

"Hello!" I answered breathlessly without checking to see who it was.

"Hello Alex." I froze, I didn't know that voice.

Yet it frightened me deeply.

"Who is this?" I asked warily, "This is your family's life on the line.... If you ever want to see them again, walk into the other room, while saying. Yes... We made it here fine."

I took a deep breath and glanced meaningfully into Caden's eyes.

"Yes... We made it here fine."

I went into the bathroom,"Good Alex.... Your parents must be so proud of what you've become, now let me tell you... If you ever want to see your parents again. You'll go to the airport and get a ticket to Volterra, you'll come to the castle and visit me."

I covered my mouth as a sob broke through me, some how the person on the line heard and a scream filled my ears.

My mother..." Stop!" I screamed, probably alerting the whole house to my distress.

"You have a week to purchase the ticket... And don't do anything stupid or ill know about it... And your mother... will meet her maker."

Bloody tears drenched my face as I looked down at the screen; it said that had been my mom's phone. I shook in fear, suddenly the door opened and Caden came in.

He pulled me into his arms and held me as I cried, now we'd have to make up a good excuse for why we'd sat in here crying...
