"We've been walking for what seems like forever." I groan. "We're almost there, stop whining." Jake laughs. I look around and things do seem a bit familiar, but it's so dark so I can't really tell. "So, who's the girlfriend that you spoke of?" I ask him.
"Nobody, I don't have one." He says. "Violet has been all over me since she became a part of the popular group, but I'm not interested." He says as he kicks a pebble on the ground. "I had to tell her that so she would leave me alone." I walk next to him in silence, then finally think of a good question.
"Then who are you interested in?" I smirk. "Nobody, let's just drop it." He says as he awkwardly scratches the back of his head. "Nope." I laugh. "I can tell you're interested in Deirdre, there's no way of hiding it now." "What? Me interested in Deirdre? No way. You're seeing things lady." He says.
"You sure?" I giggle. He sighs. "Look, what I'm about to tell you stays between you and me, got it?" He says. "Got it." I say as I give him a thumbs up. "Alright." He begins. "So, maybe I do have the hots for Deirdre." He shrugs his shoulders. "Aha! I knew it!" I say as I jump up and down.
"But you can't tell her. I don't think I would be able to handle the truth if she didn't feel the same." He sighs. "I promise." I say. Relief fills his face and his muscles relax. "Good." He finally says. "Look! Isn't that Deirdre's house?" I ask, pointing to the house in front of us. "Yea! Let's go!" He says as he starts sprinting.
I run after him, but because my leg is all messed up I run a little slower, but fast enough to keep up with him. "Oh my god Hannah!" Deirdre yells from her porch. Everyone else comes running out of the house and greets us. Hudson runs towards me and tackles me into a hug.
"I seriously thought you died." He says. I roll my eyes. "You're so dramatic." I laugh. He let's go of me and we all walk into Deirdre's house and upstairs to her room. I almost sit down but Deirdre yells at me. "Ah ah ah! You're gonna get blood on my sheets." She says. "What? I'm not on my peri-" she cuts me off. "Not that! Your leg." She laughs.
My face turns red. "Oh that." I say. Chloe and Deirdre giggle and the boys look confused. "I don't get it." Doug says. "You don't have to, it's a girl thing." Chloe laughs. Deirdre leads me to the bathroom and bandages up my leg. It stings when she puts the medicine on it, but the burning feeling goes away.
"Alright, now you can sit on my bed." Deirdre says. I slowly make my way to her bed and sit down. "That was embarrassing." I finally say. "I DON'T UNDERSTAND!" Doug yells. "Shhh!" We shush him. "It's nothing." I say. Doug rolls his eyes and sits down next to me. "Alright guys, so it's safe to say that our plan worked 50%." Deirdre begins.
"Also, Jake, I didn't know you had a girlfriend." Deirdre laughs. "I don't! I'm perfectly single, I just said that so Violet would leave me alone." He says quickly. "Yep, he's perfectly single." I say as I look at Deirdre. Jake glares at me and I shut up.
"I also have some bad news. Chloe and Hannah, my dad is cancelling my sleepover tomorrow." Deirdre sighs. "WHAT?!" Chloe and I gasp at the same time. "Yeah, he couldn't get off work tomorrow, so it's cancelled." She frowns. "Well there goes my Saturday." Chloe groans. I was about to agree but then my face lit up.
"My Saturday is still gonna be awesome." I smile. "How?" Deirdre says. "I have another party to go to." I say as I look over at Hudson. "I didn't think you were gonna go.." he smiles. "Why wouldn't I go?" I ask. "I dunno, I just thought with all the drama and you being mad at me and everything, that you wouldn't want to go." He shrugs. "Well, I originally wasn't." I laugh.
"I can understand why." He laughs. "Alright, you guys can finish up talking tomorrow. It's 9:30, guys, you should go home." Deirdre suggests. Everyone agrees. "Meet me at the middle school tomorrow at 10:30 AM. I have a surprise for you guys." Doug says before everyone leaves. "Um, okay." I shrug.
Everyone says their goodbyes and Deirdre runs outside. "Wait! Jake!" She yells. Jake turns around and smiles. "What's up?" He asks. "I can walk home with you if you want." She says. "Sure." He shrugs. I smile as they walk away together. "They totally like each other, they're just too stupid to notice." I laugh.
"Kinda like us." Hudson says. "True. That's exactly how we were before you hid in the bushes and eavesdropped on me and Emilio." I laugh. "Hey! I didn't eavesdrop, it was a part of the plan." He laughs. "Whatever you say." I shrug. I start walking away to my house when Hudson catches up to me.
"Can I walk you home?" He asks. Thinking about it, it would make me feel a lot safer. "Sure." I say. He smiles and we walk together down the street. Everything's quiet then we hear really loud yelling. "GET BACK HERE YOU FLOOFER NOODLE!" Deirdre yells. I whirl around and see Deirdre chasing Jake down the street.
"What the heck is a floofer noodle?" He laughs. "It's what you are, now give me back my hat!" She laughs. Deirdre reaches for it but Jake holds it behind his back. "You gotta kiss me first." He giggles. "Seriously? No way." She laughs. "It's the only way you'll get your hat back." He says. "You are such a Player." She giggles. "Ouch, I'm so offended." Jake says sarcastically.
Deirdre leans in a kisses Jake on the cheek. "There." She smiles. "Thank you." He says as he places the hat back on Deirdre's head. "You know, that kiss wasn't actually that bad." Deirdre says. "Yea, okay, whatever." Jake laughs. "Hey, since my dad isn't home, I'll be home alone all night and all day tomorrow." Deirdre sighs. "You can stay at my place if you want." Jake says.
"Hannah?" Hudson waves his arm in my face. "SHHH!" I almost slap his hand away. "Really?!" Deirdre says. "Yea, I'm sure my mom won't mind." Jake says. "Cool! Thanks Jake!" Deirdre says. She hugs him and they walk together back to Jake's house. "They are so adorable." I giggle. "Right, let's go." Hudson laughs.
Middle school is actually pretty cool.
