I look at Violet and she understands the look I give her. She looks in the direction I was looking in before and smiles. "Oh, do you like him?" My heart literally stops. "No I don't like him!" I say angrily. She looks confused. "So what's wrong with him then?"
"He likes me." I reply. She giggles. "What's so wrong with that?" "He likes me a little too much." I say to her, trying not to get angry with her. "Ohhhhh. Gotcha." She nods. She goes back to reading her book and I go back to trying to hide my face. What if he finds out that I'm here?
I feel relieved when he finds a seat in the front of the room. All the other kids start flooding into the room after 9:10. Some people are just late I guess, which shouldn't happen on the first day of school. I look over at Violet and she's not reading her book anymore. "What are you-"
I notice who she's looking at. "Are you kidding me." I say. "What?" She asks. "That's Jake Wanner you're looking at." "So?" I roll my eyes. "So, that means you can't have him." She just rolls her eyes back at me. "Mama gets what mama wants." She says with a smirk. We both laugh and wait for class to start.
The teacher begins instruction when someone bursts through the door. "Sorry I'm late!" They say out of breath. I suddenly get real hot and lower myself into my seat. "It's quite alright, it's your first day, so you're off the hook. Please take a seat." The teacher directs the boy to sit down. He looks around and finally starts walking towards the back of the room.
He finds a seat right across from mine. Violet looks at me and giggles. She whispers "who's that?" "That's Mr. None of your business." I say jokingly. She giggles again and looks back at the teacher. We review the schedules and the classroom rules and all that good stuff. Finally, it's time to go to our next class.
I grab Violet's hand and we race out the door to get our things. "Slow down!" Violet exclaims. I stop in front of our lockers. "Sorry, I just really wanted to get out of there." I say out of breath. I quickly grab my things and whirl around when I get hit by something powerful.
I get hit so hard that I fall to the ground. My head hurts from the fall, but I'm okay. I look up and immediately regret it. "Oh!" Violet says giggling. "Hello Mr. None of your business." I get all hot again and can tell I'm blushing. "Oh, Hannah! I'm.. I'm.. Uh."
"I-it's okay." I stutter. "Yo, Hudson, you're to young for that." Another boys voice yells. Hudson and I just stare at each other, Him on top of me and pinning me to the ground. "Could you, um, let me up?" I ask quietly. "Oh. R-right." Hudson gets off of me and helps me up. "Sorry about, um, that." "No, i-its fine, really."
"So, um, yeah. Bye then." Hudson walks off to his next class awkwardly and Violet walks over to me. She just stares at me and finally says "what the hell." I just shake my head and walk away and she follows me. "Seriously though, I've never seen anything like that in real life.
I mainly just see it on TV."Violet doesn't have 2nd period with me, so I had to face that alone. Then, it was lunch time. I meet up with Violet and we walk to the cafeteria together. "You know, that's not the last time he'll be on top of you." I elbow her and she laughs. "What's the guy's name anyway? Wasn't it Hudson or something?"
I just nod. "Don't tell anyone either. Everyone knew I liked him last year, but then I told them I didn't so they wouldn't tease me anymore." Violet nods. "I swear on my dogs grave." She says holding two fingers up and putting her hand over her heart. We talk the rest of the way to the cafeteria.
We sit right next to the cafeteria door so we can be the first ones to leave when we finish eating. Violet and I were minding our own business when Doug pops up out of nowhere and scares me so much, I almost spit out my water. "Violet?" He says. Violet just looks really confused. "Yes..?" She says with a weird look on her face.
Doug automatically goes into the happiest smile ever and jumps up and down while chanting "I got it right! I got it right!" Jake Wanner comes over and looks defeated. "No freaking way!" He says. He looks at Violet. "Your name's actually Violet?" "Um. Yes." Violet laughs. "20 bucks dude! Hand it over!" Doug exclaims.
"What's going on?" I ask. "Jake bet me 20 bucks that I couldn't guess her name." Doug says, still grinning from ear to ear. I just roll my eyes and take a sip of my water. Jake looks over at Violet. "Hi. I'm Jake." He says with a smile. Violet looks excited. "Hi!" She exclaims. Jake laughs and gives her a slip of paper. Him and Doug return to their table, Doug still smiling like an idiot. Violet looks at me very shocked and says
"He gave me his number."
