"Wake up, Hannah, you're gonna be late!" A voice calls and awakes me from my slumber. I realize it's my mom, though I don't understand why she's yelling in my face. "You're gonna be late for your first day, honey, get ready." She walks out of the room and leaves me to wake up a little.
I look at the clock. 8:15. "Great." I say to myself. I quickly get out of bed but almost fall down, I guess I got up a little too quick. I take a moment to gather myself up and then walk to my closet and open it. I grab my white t-shirt and throw it on, next comes my shorts. I top it off with a denim jacket, but I don't buckle it up. It looks cooler that way.
"Where the heck are my shoes?" I say as I roam around the room helplessly. I try to remember what I did with them the night before, but I get nothing. I decide to eat breakfast first but as I walk out the door I trip over something. Of course it's my shoes. I quickly slip on my tennis shoes and walk downstairs. Dad greets me in the kitchen.
"Mom told me you were in a rush." He says. "I made you breakfast to go." It's not two seconds before my little brother Jacob comes in, dragging his blanket across the floor. "Pan pan." He says over and over again. "You want some pancakes, buddy?" My dad asks kindly. He nods. My dad hands me the pancakes he made me and starts making Jacobs pancakes.
I quickly eat my breakfast and then go upstairs to brush my teeth and hair. I look at the clock and it's nearly 8:45. I grab my backpack and grab my lunch out of the fridge. "Good luck out there, champ." My dad says to me as I walk out the door. I wave to him goodbye and head outside to moms car. She's already waiting for me, so I quicken my pace.
I jump into the car and buckle fast. My mom pulls out of the driveway quickly and I'm on my way to school. I relax my head on the seat and slide down into the seat. I need to be relaxed, but it's the hardest thing to do. My stomach fills with fluttery feelings and I feel all jumpy. "You nervous, kiddo?" My mom asks me. I look out the window. "Yea, a little." Pfft, that was a lie.
"Just remember, it's just 6th graders today, so everyone's new to this. everyone." She smiles at me as we pull up to the school. "Good luck in there, honey, you'll do fine." She says to me. I give her a hug and step out of the car. She waves goodbye to me and drives off so the cars behind her can drop their kids off. I tighten my grip on my backpack and take a deep breath. I honestly feel like I'm gonna be sick.
I can barely walk to the door to actually get in the school. My legs feel like jelly and my stomach is going crazy. I slowly walk to the door and carefully push it open. A gush of cool air hits my face as I walk inside and the door shuts behind me. I'm lucky it's just 6th graders today, otherwise I would be going nuts.
The school is bigger than most schools I've been to. There are teachers at practically every corner you look at. The cafeteria is straight ahead, and to my right is the office and the nurses office. Then to my left is where I'm supposed to go, the 6th grade stairs. I don't know where any of my classes are, so I'm gonna have to ask someone.
The walls are a unusual blue color, and there's a big banner that says "welcome 6th graders" hanging from the ceiling. I think the library and computer lab is upstairs, because I don't see them anywhere. I look around a bit more when something catches my eye. It's a girl, and she seems very upset. She's looking at her schedule and then looking around.
We might have the same classes, so maybe I could help her out. I walk up to her and greet her with a smile. "Hi." I say kindly. She looks up from her schedule and seems surprised. "Hi." She replies. "I'm Hannah." I say. "Do you need any help?" She looks relieved. "Yes, yes I do." She sighs.
"Well, maybe I can help you." I reply. She smiles at me. "Thank you, I'm Violet by the way." I look at her happily. "Violet, that's a nice name." She laughs. "Thank you." She looks at her watch and then looks back at me. "Dang, it's already 9:00. We'd better hurry." We exchange schedules. We have 1st period, 3rd period, and 5th period together.
We hurry to class so we're not late. Violet is a very pretty girl. She has very long, brown hair that almost reaches her waist, and lots of freckles. Her eyes are a forest kind of green, like mine. In fact, she almost looks exactly like me. The only big difference is my braces. She looks like the sporty kind, and is wearing a red flannel with shorts.
When we finally get to class, the teacher greets us and tells us we can choose our seats. Violet and I sit next to each other of course. We chose the back of the room because it's much more quiet back there. I haven't seen anyone that I know from 5th grade yet, so it's very awkward for me, But at least I know Violet now.
Everything's going great, until the one person I didn't want to run into shows up. I remember him from pre-k. He was super attached to me, he had a huge crush on me, in fact. I can't believe he's here, his blonde hair is curly and covers his face. He's shorter than I am, and he's wearing a ninja turtle shirt.
It's Jason.
