The Start

Chapter one

The Start

I woke up early leaving soundly so I didn't wake anyone. Today was reaping day. I wanted to go train in the back alley like I did everyday. But today I was training harder focusing on what would be most helpful in the games. I had put my name in 39 times so there was no chance of my other siblings getting picked they all put there name in once. My mother and father didn't know that I put my name in that many times but I had to. I was rewarded with extra food an money when I put in my name more than once. That is what we needed.

I grabbed my knives my bow and arrows my running shoes and my combat boats and the spay paint. I threw them in my bag and headed to the alley. On my way there Jaiden my crush was walking backwards talking to someone and when he turned to continue he walked right in to me.

"Ohh I'm sorry Brenna I really am." My knives,arrows,shoes,and spay paint fell out of my bag and my bow fell too. Trying to collect my stuff he pitched in and our hands meet as we both picked up the bow.

"I didn't know you shoot is that why there holes in the center of the targets in the back alley?" he asked me as his eyes meet with mine.

"Yeah but I'm a knife thrower too and speed is my thing those are what the 18 15by15 squares used for" I said putting my sneakers in my bag.

"Do you think I could come train with you cuz Ive been trained in fitting but knife throwing sounds fun too. And my speed isn't as great as it used to be so would that be ok?" he asks me as I try to put away all my stuff.

"Sure." I say feeling like the happiest girl ever. Happier than the girls from the rich districts happier than anything.

As we are walking we hear a scream. we know it's a murder. Since we are a rebel district than there is a murder sent from the Capitol to try and sweep us out. We hear a women scream as she falls but before he can kill her I pull out my bow a grab an arrow and shoot. He is gone now. The woman thanks me and runs off.

"Wow I didn't know you were that good." Jaiden says shocked.

"I'm not that good I mean I practice but I'm not great." I tell him knowing I have a good aim but I'm not good.

"Are u kidding me your amazing you just killed the murder!" he tells me making me feel like I just saved the world.

We arrived at the alley. I was shocked when I saw nick my best friend sitting there waiting for me that's when I remembered that I would promise to train with him knowing he has also entered his name in 39 times so we both have an equal chance of being reaped for the games.

"Nick I'm so sorry I ran into Jaiden and he asked if he could come and I said yes and then I killed the murder and like wow this has been a crazy morning please don't be mad!" I say depressed and just unsure of what he will Nick respond with. Knowing he is older than Jaiden and dislikes him and feels Jaiden will put my life in danger.

"You killed the murder?" He asked shocked.

"Ya. With my bow." I tell him hoping he is excited for me.

"Ya it was a sick shot right to the heart!" Jaiden just has to chime in. Nick's response didn't surprise me. Nick look after me he protected me and would never let danger harm me. Nick responded happy for me but so upset at Jaiden...................

"That's amazing Brenna. But of course you didn't save her just let her shot at him. She could have gotten killed!"

"She just shot and what was I suppose to do?!??" Jaiden asked scared bit thinking he is stronger than Nick.

"Well let's gets training. hopefully you can learn some skill on how to save people particularly her." Nick says knowing Jaiden has no chance out training him.

So we start to train. We do my three warm up agility skills then we throw some knifes. I sit the center on every single target I throw at. I teach Jaiden how to throw.

"Just hold the grip, overhand throw and follow throw. He hits the center. Nick just ignores it knowing with my training you will probably hit the center.
