Chapter 8
Tribute Parade
We walk out to the chariots. Katniss and I. Jaiden and Peeta. Jaiden still mad, still has the look of anger in his eyes. He doesn't really look at me nothing. He just gets into the chariot and waits for the parade to start. Does he really love me? Do I love him?
As we enter the streets he grabs my hand and holds it tight. I look at him and he smiles. Maybe he does love me.
Fans, sponsors, and Capitol people cheer loudly as we enter and see the 12 on our backs imprinted in flame. I look straight ahead. I don't care what they say or do. I don't care how they feel about us or what they know about us. I just want all the time I have with him to last for as long as possible.
President Paylor makes her announcements and sends us back to the tunnel we came through. She eyes Jaiden and I and then raises her eyebrow at our intertwined hands. Before we can completely leave the the streets Jaiden raises our hands in the air just like he did before the train doors closed at 12. This time our backs to the audience. They go wild. I just let Jaiden play this show. I don't know anymore. Maybe he is doing this to keep us alive. Maybe he is doing this to kill us. Or he is doing this for real because he actually loves me. I'm not all that sure yet.
"Great job kids......you really put on quite the show. Especially you Brenna your death stare is much more intense then Katniss. They'll never believe the love story ever. Not when you look like that." Haymitch says with a laugh
"We will make them believe it. We will." I say and grab Jaiden's hand and walk towards the elevator.
"Let's just stay focused on training tomorrow ok." I say putting my head on his shoulder while we stand in the elevator. Once we reach our floor Jaiden and I walk to our rooms which are right next to each other. I go in mine an he goes in his. I miss Nick so much but this is what has to happen. I have to fight for him and my family and the boy that saved me today.
