Alex's POV:
Alex nervously fidgeted in his seat. Today was the day. He would be attending America Elementary as a 6th grader. Being from the Caribbean, he didn't have much experience in NY. He was so scared."Welcome, Mr. Hamilton." A tall man in fancy attire said in a loud, booming voice.
"Thank you. When will I get my schedule?" asked an anxious Alexander.
"Here it is." He handed Alex a yellow sheet of paper. "I'm Principal George King III, by the way. Enjoy your time here. Now hurry to class, you don't want to be tardy!" The principal said.
"Um, thanks." Alex mumbled. He slid out of the blue plastic chair in the principal's office. He was a short-tempered, black-haired, very smart kid from the Caribbean. He was short, only 4'10. He was 12 years old, and ready for anything. A lump formed in his throat as he walked down the dusty-smelling halls of the newly renovated school. Blue lockers, white walls, a red floors. It seemed weird. He stopped in front of his classroom. "Do it for mom," he thought. "Be brave for her." And with that final thought, Alex stepped into a big classroom filled with students.
"Ah, I see the new student has arrived. Welcome Alexander. I'm Mr. Washington. You can have a seat next to Mr. Mulligan." A big man with an authoritive sounding voice said, pointing to an empty seat at a table of desks with 3 other boys.
"Thank you." Alex said. As he walked to his desk, he noticed 3 pretty girls pointing and whispering at him. One had long, beautiful black hair and a blue dress. She caught Alex's eye immediately. Their eyes locked together for a split second and a rosy pink color flooded both of the student's cheeks. Alex's face felt hot as he slid into a seat next to a buff, burly boy.
"Hey, bro. I'm Herc. This is John," he said pointing to a freckled boy with a ponytail. "This is Lafayette. He just goes by his last name 'cuz he's French and his first name confuses the heck out of everybody."
"Hey." Alex said as he took out his pencil case. He could already tell these guys were going to be his friends.
"Alexander. Come here a second." Called Mr. Washington.
Alex fast-walked to his teacher's desk. "Yes?"
"I have a couple things to tell you. This is Aaron. He'll be showing you around." He pointed to a boy a bit taller than Alex. Aaron waved. Alex waved back. "Second. There are football team tryouts this week, on Thursday. You don't need experience, just some athletic ability. I figured you'd be interested. I'm the coach, so talk to me about any questions. Lastly, debate team meets on Mondays. They're always looking for new recruits."
"Okay, thanks. I'll keep that in mind." Alex said
"Good luck, son." Washington called after Alex, who was making his way back to his desk.
Alexander turned around, looked Washington in the eye and said, "I'm not your son." He then turned around and headed back to his desk. He was nearly there when he was tripped by someone. "Hey, watch it buddy!" He yelled at a well-dressed kid with a smirk on his face.
"The name is Thomas. This is James M, James R., George Eacker and Maria. We don't like newcomers." All of them nodded in agreement, except Maria, who blushed.
"Do I look like I care? Leave me alone, fat a**!" Alexander yelled at Thomas.
"Mr. Hamilton! We do not use language like that in this classroom!" Alexander heard his teacher say. Alexander didn't care. He could feel wet, hot tears in his eyes. He pushed them back and ran to his desk. He drowned out the chattering of his classmates and put his head on his desk. What a terrible first day.
"Can...can I use the restroom?" Alex finally said, lifting his head up from his desk.
"Yes." Said Washington. "Aaron, could you take him there?"
"No, I'm fine!" Alex yelled, running out of the classroom. He ran through the hallways, past the classrooms, and ran out of the school. He sat on the front steps, crying. "I'm sorry, mom!" He yelled at the sky. "I failed you. I'm stupid. I wish I had died when we were both sick with cancer. Why was it just you? Why wasn't it me? I...hate...this...f***ing school!" He screamed. He cried and cried. He didn't ask for his father to leave him. For his mother to die. To live with strict foster parents who didn't even like him. To come to this school. Life was so unfair.
"Alexander." He heard someone say. He whipped around to see a man staring at him lie, he was a dying baby animal. "I'm Mr. Bursur. The guidance counselor. I'm here to help." He looked at Alex like he was stupid. And Alex was definitely not stupid. And before he could think about what he was doing, Alex's fist connected with Mr. Bursur's jaw and there was a large CRACK!
And that was how Alexander Hamilton got suspended on his first day of school.
