~Chapter Five~
When Phoebe got back to the dorm, she screamed. If she had thought anything weird of her dorm mate before, she had definitely been spot on.
Mindy was working on what looked like a school project for who-knows-what class in between the two beds at a square table that barely fit. Instead the person of concern was lying just beyond Mindy’s bed near the closet on the filth-covered floor. From the grey hoodie lying on her roommate's bed, Phoebe could tell it was Dante the cat boy. Although his back was turned to her, she could hear him groan.
“Hey again.” Mindy wasn’t smiling like she was when she had been around Dante earlier. Phoebe could see some cat scratches across her face. Perhaps she has gotten too close to the cat boy.
“Why are you here?” Phoebe sat down cautiously on her bed, avoiding eye contact with Dante’s limp body. She didn’t want to know what happened.
Mindy finished writing her sentence before looking up. Unlike usual, she wore a pair of specs on the bridge of her nose and appeared to be serious. “I have Spare. So does the Neko.” Her eyes pointed in the direction of Dante with a glare. “I’m working on our project for The History of Animals. We chose to write about the Grey Wolf after a much heated argument.” Something about her statement made Phoebe guess that it was Mindy who had knocked Dante unconscious for not agreeing with her idea.
Dante moaned and propped his head up. As he turned his head, his green eyes were filled with annoyance. “What the hell did you do that for, you crazy canine?!”
Phoebe could tell that the Neko had a little bit of an accent. What was it, British? She couldn’t tell. She noticed that Dante also couldn’t move very far and the reason why was because his hands and feet were tied up with rope. After a second glance, she realized that Mindy was holding the end of the rope with a very firm grip. Phoebe gasped at her roommate’s sadistic behaviour but Mindy chose to stay silent and kept writing her report.
“Hey, listen to me, you bitch!” Dante hissed. For a fraction of a second, Mindy appeared like she was ready to retaliate, but she merely tightened her lips. Dante rocked back and forth in an attempt to loosen the ropes confining his limbs and Phoebe rushed over to untie his bindings. When she had, he didn’t seem too grateful. He rose to his full height, which was still taller than Phoebe, and tried to attack Mindy. Phoebe, with much effort as she wasn’t very strong, held him back by grabbing his arms.
“Oh,” purred Dante, noticing Phoebe for the first time. She let go of his arms, sensing that he had calmed down. “So this is your new roommate? The only human in the entire school? She must be so impressed with your attitude… I bet she got a wonderful impression of the Unknown from you-”
Mindy couldn’t take much more of Dante’s insults. She quickly used one of Phoebe’s moves from the night before, but this time she threw a brick at Dante’s head, knocking him out cold. When she had comforted herself, she looked rather depressed. Her ears drooped and she hid her face with her shoulder length hair.
“Uh, Mindy…?” Feeling awkward, Phoebe wasn’t sure whether to comfort her or leave at once.
“Phoebe… I just need some time alone right now.” Mindy didn’t even bother to turn around, leading Phoebe to suspect she was crying. “I’m sorry, but…” Her voice cracked.
“I understand.”
“Can you take that big idiot with you?”
Phoebe was about to ask what on earth she would do with an unconscious half-cat, half-male student, but Mindy was completely upset by this point. Grabbing Dante around the middle, Phoebe dragged him outside of the dorm room.
