~Chapter Eight~
Judith Iocus was enjoying his afternoon in the peace of his dorm room, nobody to bother him. He was the only one in his dorm since it seemed that none of his previous roommates had felt comfortable living with him.
Jude lay face down on his bed, his wizard’s hat falling off his newly dyed black hair and onto the wooden floor. All was silent until a knock came at the door.
“Ugh,” groaned Jude, in an attempt to express how much he wanted the person on the other end to stop knocking. Still, the racket did not cease.
“Coming…” Jude staggered off his bed and opened the door. The person he found was not one he had been expecting.
“Hey, Wechsler, buddy…” Kyle Whitewing slurred, leaning into the door opening.
Jude was about to slam the door, but the way Kyle was acting bothered him.
“Are you drunk or something?” he exclaimed. Kyle was the last person on earth who would leisurely visit him without having been partially wasted.
“Oh, and when I thought that friends could visit each other whenever…”
“What friend, Whitewing?”
“Haha,” Kyle laughed, hitting Jude on the back a little too hard, causing him to cough.
“What happened to you?” Jude inquired, narrowing his eyes. He knew that Kyle only intoxicated himself when he was going through moments of extreme discomfort. “The arrival of Stella McLaughlin too much for you?”
Kyle grinned. “You know me too well.” He leant against the door frame, scanning the tidy dorm room. The walls had been decorated with the most obscure objects; sea shells, posters of people Kyle vaguely knew, and assortments of papers and clothing. “Nice place you got here… Better than the dark cellar I abide in.”
Jude snorted. He knew Kyle’s sarcasm all too well. It didn’t help that he had seen Kyle’s room though. It was more depressing and messy than Jude’s. He fidgeted with the pocket watch he always wore underneath his clothes.
“What’s with the black?” Jude raised an eyebrow, referring to Kyle’s new wardrobe.
“Ah, you noticed?” Kyle hiccoughed as he lifted his arms, showing off his new suit like a model. Jude had to stifle a laugh. “But anyways, I need you to do this one teensy-weensy chore for me…” He put his hand into the inside of his jacket and pulled out a folded piece of paper.
Jude took the paper and read it. “But this is illegal, Kyle. The both of us could get into serious trouble if anyone found out…”
“I am the major authority around here, so you can be assured that no one will find out,” Kyle droned. “Have it ready in time for the dance.”
Jude refolded the paper and placed it into his vest pocket. “And why should I risk my hide for you?”
Kyle smirked, showing off his teeth. “Thought you’d say that…”

Once again, Jude was alone. As he walked down the hallway to Mindy’s room, he thought about what Kyle had said, but it wasn’t convincing enough to force him to help the jerk out. Besides, he probably didn’t keep promises while he was intoxicated.
