Chapter Three - Unfathomable Emotions and Ceaseless Qualms
The two girls traced back their steps, tip-toeing through the school gates, outside and into the open. While Miranda moaned out their failure, they both agreed on attempting another crafty round of confronting the haughty fellow the following day.
Miranda had climbed onto another bus, for she lived in the less-greener outskirts of the country-side. While Linda was seated on her customary to and fro mode of transport – she kept her eyes shut in an attempt to doze off. A slow yet strong migraine was working itself through her skull and it was shattering her ability to have a decent assumption over Paul’s and Zacharias’ cryptic encounter.
Perhaps Paul had wished to discuss over wedding schemes. Perhaps, he had been there to converse school-related concerns. Or perhaps even, Paul might be dealing with risky waters, by taking matters into his own hands. Thereby he would be incurring the wrath of not only Alexander’s but that of Sir Francis’ too.
She shook her head. As Miranda had suggested only a while ago – she ought to deal with the bothersome rest after a decent bout of sleep.
As Linda carried a house spare key with her always, she was able to enter the confines of her room, stealthily – without her Mom’s notice.
The traumatic headache was becoming too great to muster. She hurriedly gulped down some aspirin and flopped onto the midst of her kempt sheets. With a lazy smile of relief on her lips, she drifted off into a deep slumber.
“She’d blast if she saw you in her room.”
“I should think not. Does she often nap this long? My friends are being kept mercilessly a-waiting at the bowling alley.”
Linda had been awake only a second ago and frowned, while her eyes remained yet shut.
Any onlooker would not have been able to tear his hungry and devouring gaze away from her current slumbering state. She looked the picture of a charming beauty at the age of nearly sixteen. Curled into a ball, with her luscious lashes fanning her cheek; and her alabaster skin so smooth and flawless; and those innocent lips that were shaped just so perfectly, a natural pink that seemed extremely appealing –she had not a single idea that her naïve, youthful beauty was lulling Samuel into a hypnotized-bound spell and deep, uncontrolled fantasies.
Even so, the voices that she had heard a while ago made no sense, whatsoever. Jerking away from her sleep, she threw her legs onto the floor.
And her eyes met those belonging to her little brother’s, at the doorway of her room. Linda clearly recalled locking it prior to sleeping. She stood up immediately and approached Bill with a look of menace on her expression. Her younger brother had been resorting to much silly pranks of late and she doubted that this was any different.
Placing her hand on her hips, she stood towering him by two inches at most. However, her brother’s gaze kept darting around the room. More to being afraid, his lips twitched into a smirk. That stirred more of her annoyance within her gut. “Bill, I’m warning you -” she began her threat.
However, she was instantly cut short when the deep voice of a male clearing his throat sounded through the room. A quick gasp emitted from her and her eyes were bloodshot with horror.
Frightened beyond her wits, she held steadfastly onto the front of Bill’s navy Super-man T-shirt. When she was almost on the verge of voicing her paramount fears to her little brother, he did the obvious. Sticking out his little tongue at her, he dashed out of the room with his laughter trailing after him.
