Chapter Seven – The Deadline

Linda wore an endearing frown with a wrinkled forehead and a scrunched up nose – she felt betrayed and hurt through means of her only chum. However could Miranda have initiated such an idea? It was downright exasperating and every second Linda’s mind replayed probable scenarios of the likely event – her physique would shudder with pangs of disgust.

A tour to Blackpool Pleasure Beach with Samuel and Zacharias, too – how could she withstand the entire day with them when clearly this week was all that was left over to obtain her portion of fun and enjoyment of life?

Miranda had rung her number a while ago. She had said, “Linds – I want you to listen to me very closely. Tomorrow we – that is to say – Henry, his girlfriend, Paul, you and I, and also Samuel and Zach would be heading to Blackpool Pleasure Beach at morning.”

Before Linda could rudely interrupt her even though her tongue was tied with the revelation of a highly shocking declaration, Miranda continued, “Nuh-uh! You’ll be joining us. This tour is for the sakes of abridging Samuel’s and your relationship.”

Linda did not hold back any longer. “WHAT?-!” She had screeched into the phone. “But Miranda – you’re supposed to side with me - you’re my chum! I can’t befriend the foe!”

Miranda, whilst dramatically rolling her eyes, had told her calmly, “It’s all in vain to plot against them, Linds. You are to betroth Samuel come hail or sun – thus, it could at-least be done on friendlier terms? Marriage is a lifetime bond – you can’t expect to remain angry with him your entire lifetime, pie?”

And that was how Linda had agreed to the nonsensical tour, wondering how her friend’s awareness had been influenced. Something was certainly very wrong.

Meanwhile, after the simple persuasion had been effectively executed, Paul received a message from a number that he was too lethargic to save under the name-tag – Miranda.

<She’ll be joining us> the message read. Paul was confident that Linda could never refuse her chum’s bidding, having witnessed their blossoming, budding relationship expand with the years.

Paul dialled Harrington’s number. When a male voice sounded through the speaker, he handed the device to Henry who was swirling around tensely upon an office chair.

“Henry on the line, sir,” Henry spoke, sitting boldly upright.

“What’s the news?” Harrington asked with slight hesitation.

“She has agreed. Are you certain this is the manner to approach it all? I don’t want our sister to be left with a broken heart.”

“Henry,” Harrington spoke with clenched eyes, “I want you to understand the risk that you and your brother are involved in - it’s high and mighty. One wrong move could result in a severed corpse. By allowing Linda to maintain a loving relationship with her fiancé – the two of you shall remain the farthest from Francis’ suspect. In due time – I’ll let you know what must be done.”

“But why allow it to go as far as the marriage? Why not act now?” Henry asked in desperation.

“This marriage – is something Francis is utterly eager to be done with. For selfish reasons, I agree. So altering any portion of his plan would have severe consequences, Henry. We’d have to answer to his sharp blade, instead. Let’s wait till they’re married and then dive in with our saviour-roles.”

“Just remember – she’s ‘our’ sister. We shan’t allow an inch of harm occur to her even through you,” Henry warned sternly.

“I shall always bear that in mind.”
