Chapter Eight – The Ultimate Proposal

Samuel crushed the stretch of fresh grass beneath his sports shoes and uttered a sigh of dismissal, “I give up – you guys can wait for them. I’m going inside to purchase tickets.”

Turning his curvaceous bottom towards them, he strode away and was swallowed in the throb of awaiting, noisy strangers in the long queue.

Linda huffed and gritted her teeth. Samuel’s intolerant behaviour was gradually creeping up her veins. He seemed more over-sensitive than any of those occasions they had met. It simply kept Linda wondering why she had ever agreed to join their lot.

“Linnie, over here,” a familiar voice sang from her left. Miranda instantly tugged at her arm and pointed towards the set of three figures that were panting at a distance. Not bothering over Zacharias, she pulled Miranda to the next queue at where they stood.

To her misfortune – Samuel stood contrary to her. However, he was quite engrossed in eyeing a gang of ladies farther away from them who were clothed in the tiniest of shorts and skinny-wear.

In her ire, she dug her nails deep into Miranda’s arm.

“Ouch!” Miranda turned towards her, rubbing away the pain that was stinging mildly. Yet, Linda remained absolutely focused on how Samuel was flirting away with obscene gestures aimed at them. The girls did not seem to mind though – they set off giggling ridiculously.

Miranda cleared her throat for she could literally sense the steam blaze from her friend. “Linds,” she called out aloud to catch her attention.

It worked; Linda faced her and dispersed her fury, “Yeah?”

“Did you see Henry’s girlfriend?” Miranda wiggled her eyebrows at her.

Linda clamped a palm to her mouth and swerved her head around to catch a glimpse of the blonde-haired beauty who was laughing with her brother.

She did not need to read further – it was plainly written all over their expression; they were happy. A perfect match – that was all that mattered to her, she thought with a small smile.

Looking skyward, subsequently, Linda was stunned by the magnificent rides that rose as high as the clouds amongst which the roller-coaster rides were the most perceivable. Gulping down the fear that bobbed down her throat, Linda sincerely hoped they would not make her climb into the fastest of them all.

“Psst…” Samuel called her. He pointed a thumb at Linda, then at him and then clenched his palms together and made a flying gesture with his hand. Linda narrowed her eyes at him – he could go on dreaming. She rolled her eyes and turned away, a small laugh working its way into her lips.

Samuel was really immature.

Once the wristbands were tied onto each visitor, the crowd burst inside, pushing them along. Henry signalled for them to wait and a minute later, they were standing together – Henry with his arm snaked around Rachelle’s shoulder, Paul beside him, Samuel and Zacharias with their shades on and Miranda who stood beside her.

“Alright – I’ve purchased tickets to every ride for our lot. What about you, Sam?” Henry asked.

“Yup,” he waved his tickets around, “all rides on for us, too,” turning to Linda he provided her a playful smirk.

Zacharias rubbed his palms together, “C’mon, let’s go.”

Henry led the way while they followed after with Paul. Samuel walked beside her which made her gaze being fixated to the right. That caused Miranda to rather hasten her steps.
