Chapter 22 |
Will You Be My Boo Thang?Sonya
It was the last period of the day and it was Halloween, needless to say, everyone was ready to be done with the school day. We were sitting in class and watching Beetle Juice. My English teacher didn't believe in doing work on holidays - yes he considered Halloween a holiday - so we just did nothing.
Our teacher for some reason liked to put us in assigned seating, but he organized it based on feeling.
If he felt like you should sit in the middle, your sitting in the middle. He decided that I was supposed to sit in the back left corner, and a couple seats to my right was Wally. We didn't talk much in this class because he made a group of friends and they were all here and, well as for me. Kassandra wasn't in the class.
"I'm honestly surprised he talks to her." I heard a voice whisper from in front of me.
A hmm was sounded in agreement. "She seems like a nice girl though." It was Sara, her and her friends were talking amougnst each other.
As nice as Sara was, she was just like any other typical teenage girl. She enjoyed to talk about other teenagers with her friends.
I wonder who the poor person is this time?
"Yeah, she is but if only she would take a shower once in a while." Sara responded, the girls giggled together.
That wasn't even funny, if someone is a little stinky let them know in a discreet manner, not talk to your friends about it. This was the one side of Sara no one liked. Everyone knew even though Sara was nice, she could be a real cold hearted witch when she wanted to be.
"Poor her, it's not her fault she's as dark as dirt." One of her friends cooed.
I froze, there was no way. I'm sure it wasn't me they were talking about.
I had been focused on the movie projector up until now, I knew there were a lot of other dark skinned girls in this school but how many of them talked to Wally.
Just one...
...and that one was me.
I inhaled sharply through my nose, trying not to let them see that the comment really got under my skin, but this one was new.
Not even Angel went as far as that.
From the corner of my eyes, I could still see them whispering to one another. Albeit a lot quieter now, I knew it was me they were talking about for sure. They looks they kept casting my way weren't for curiosity. We've been going to the same school for 4 years now.
It was in that moment my mind flashed back to lunch earlier today.Sara was talking to Wally about the Halloween dance her and the dance commute were planning.
She grinned, "I appreciate the faith, I hope it turns out as great as I want it to be, but how about I show you how great dances can be." She insisted.
Maybe it was just me but it seemed like Wally froze at those words.
It was obvious Sara wanted him to go to the dance with her. And I'm sure Wally got the message loud and clear.
Why was he hesitating?
"Uhh," He stuttered.
Sara gave him her signature smile and he returned one of his own.
"I'd love for you to show me how fun this dance could be Sara." He replied, he was back to his chrasmatic, handsome self. The Wally we were used to.
