       XOXO

i watched as the nail tech painted over my whole nail with the color opal. it went good with my skin color. ms.ashley sat in the chair next to me getting her hair spiral curled.

" ugh i have to drive all the way across the other side of town to pick up nae" i complained glancing over to ms.ashley.

" where is she?"

" i let her go to her friends house for the weekend... "

" its only friday, let her stay another day... you know teenagers"

" thats what im afraid of... "

" what do you mean?"

" i know how she is, her attitude, demeanor & personality comes honest"

" remind me of antwan"

" go sit under dryer " the chinese woman said, trying so hard to pronounce her words so i could understand them.

she twisted the cap on top of all the finger nail polishes she used & placed them back on the shelf before she walked over & turned on the dryer.

" you can pay when your done dryer" she added.

i made me way over to the uv light dryer & sat down, placing my hands under it.

" i think i want nae & antwan to meet" i blurted aloud.

the dryer wasnt far away from where ms.ashley was sitting so our conversation continued. not to mention we were the only two there.

" i thought they met already?"

" no ma'am... he hasnt meet any of my... immediate family"

" why?"

" i dont really talk to them... not my mom or dad... or other brothers & sisters except nae" i explained as i shrugged my shoulders.

though i had family troubles as a teenager, im not one of those people that are extra close with their siblings & parents anyway... that wasnt something that interested me as a kid.

" i was like that up until my 30's when i realized i missed them" she said " dont grow thinking you dont need them, trust me baby, you'll regret it"

i didnt reply... instead i removed my hands from the dryer & checked them. that signaled the idea that it was time for a subject change.

" so hows school darling?" she asked as she checked her hair in the hand held mirror the hair dresser handed her. her face was surrounded in pretty, shiny, tight spiral curls.

" thank you" she said as she got up from the chair & dug through her big brown bag in search of her wallet.

" its been good. im so happy that school started back" i explained.

" well thats good... i love the fact that you've got something going for yourself & your not one of those fast tail young girls that are depending on someone else to provide"

i smiled at her statement. it made me more proud of myself. she walked over to the full size mirror that hung next to the dryer.

" girl i look like a million bucks... i needa go find me a honey dip" she said twisting & turning.

i laughed.

" your a mess ms.ashley "

" forreal... i aint too old honey"
