She tried to hiss at her, the leader.

"You call that a hiss?" a grey and white cat shouted to her assailants below. She tapped at a small, silver object hanging from her collar. "You sounded like a sick kit, or a dying dog!"

The dog leaped up and scratched at the branch. Her claws caught the base, again bringing it down slightly. Her long, brown fur got caught on the bark, leaving bits behind. Her thick vest scratched the trunk as it slid down.

"You can't even jump like a kit!" the cat shouted.

"Bonbon, just stop," one of the dogs said. Her golden fur blew back and forth in the wind.

"No, keep going!" another identical dog said, scratching at her own grey vest. "I've never seen Heidi so angry before."

Heidi continued to point her black muzzle towards Bonbon, her rows of teeth clenched holding back her barks. The other two dogs were sitting, looking up and down the alley, and back at Bonbon.

The small, brown dog leaped up again, scratching the tree lower.

"Take what you said back," she shouted, "and I'll let you live. Take it back!"

"What's that?" Bonbon said. "I can't understand you above all the growls and fake hisses."

"You know you can understand her," the long-furred golden dog said. "You've been living with dogs your whole life. And you got yourself into this situation."

"Shut up, Jutta!" Bonbon said. "This is between me and the war dog!"

"What did I do?" Jutta said back.

"You tried to stop the fight." the third dog responded.

"You shut your muzzle too, Karin," Bonbon shouted towards her. "Me and Heidi!"

"Hey you watch yourself, kittypet," Karin said. "Heidi won't be the only one clawing up this tree if you keep talking like that."

Heidi snarled at the cat. "Don't you dare talk to my comrades like that. You apologize to them, right after you apologize to me!"

"Why?" Bonbon said. "Why should I apologize to some war dog that seems to live to make me fear for my life every time I walk past Twoleg warriors? You don't have to take out your war-anger on me. You're supposed to protect me!"

Heidi reared back, swiping the branch again. More pieces of it flew off as she let out another snarl.

"Me protect you? My job is to help my masters find threats. Not protect kittypets. You interfere with their work, and rub and mark yourselves all over their camps. You cats are nothing but a disruption."

"It's open territory," Bonbon spat. "I don't see your claim to it!"

The war dog motioned to a black, 'X'-shaped symbol on the side of her vest. It was surrounded by a white circle, that within a bright, red patch.

"There's our claim! Achse claim, the most powerful in this place! It's all over. This symbol is even hanging over your master's home. Everywhere belongs to them!"

Bonbon waved her paw at the dogs. "I said your claim. Not your owners... you dogs sure are troubled in the head. That's probably why your first response is to bark, encourage, and soft-talk. I don't even know what to make of that. We have three dogs sending three different messages. To cats, that's called a mouse-brain!"
