"Ahhh!!!" Freckles screamed from behind me.
I whipped around, expecting to see someone attacking Freckles. But, all I saw was a bunch of food scraps on Freckles. Her arms were out, as she didn't expect the attack and her lip quivered. I looked up above to see apartment windows. So that's where they came from.
I walked over the Freckles and brushed off the food scraps. "Hey," I smiled, trying to comfort the young girl who was half my height. "It's alright. You just take a jump into the port and you'll be fine."
"It's not that," she sighed. Her voice sounded like she was holding back tears.
"Then what's the problem?"
"Why are we treated like scum?"
"Huh?"
"I mean, we can't help that we're homeless and that we need to do everything we can to survive the harsh elements of the world, even if it means we resort to stealing. People don't care why we are like this; they'll treat us like dirt because we're thieves. But we're just children. Can people bother to take the time and wonder why we are like this an think twice before dumping their scraps on us?"
"People often judge a book by it's cover. People are no different. They see us children stealing things, then they'll treat us poorly as we are just rats to them. But, you are right; if they get a chance to know why we are like this, then maybe they'll think twice before dumping their scraps out the window."
But Freckles still looked upset. I picked up the scraps from the ground and dumped them on my head. Freckles snapped her head up in shock as she saw me dirtying myself so I was like her. "See?" I said, ruffling her hair. "Now you aren't alone. I'm covered in food scraps not along with you. We're matching!"
I waved my arms around in the air and Freckles laughed, feeling a little bit better.
*~*~*~*~*~
Joker was holding a circus camp to invite in newcomers to the circus. Doll and I were dressed in our usual attire; Doll wore a white wig, which appears to be made of white roses, with two feathers sticking out the left side and beads dangling from the side, that ties under her chin in a large bow; it is worn to veil her left eye. There is a design of thorny tendrils painted on her left cheek, that reaches down from her covered left eye. She also was wearing fake white eyelashes, an off-white neckband trimmed in white lace, an off-white sleeveless dress trimmed with a striped bow and more white roses, off-white sleeves with a poof cap that extends from her shoulder to just below her elbow.
I, on the other hand, wore a black ruffled dress and that had red ruffles if you turned the dress inside out along with a red rose at the center of my chest, black thigh-high socks and black belle flats. I also had my black hair up in a bun which was held up by fake black roses. I had my hair covering my right eye for private reasons.
