"Father?" Freckles, Dagger, and I asked a plump, middle aged, balding man with tiny glasses as he gazed almost lifelessly put the window. He came back home a couple hours ago from I think a gathering of nobles and spent the time since he got here gazing out a window. It was as if he was in deep thought. Even though it was way past our bedtime, we approached the man who took us in as his wife was getting worried about him not coming to bed and asked us lurking children to check up on him.
He did not reply to us as he continued gazing out the window. Up above, a full moon, shining bright and pale, was seen in the midnight sky. It's bathed us in its cold rays. We reached our hand out to grab his and and to get his attention to us. "Why are you up so late?" We asked him again.
That's when his attention finally snapped back to us, but not in a positive way. "Don't come near me!" He shrieked, shoving us by our heads away from him. We screamed at the hard push he gave us. Our frail bodies made contact with the hard ground. He stared at us in shock and turned his attention back at the window, the shocked look still glued onto his face.
I helped Dagger up as he leaned against the wall, since he had one leg and it was difficult to get up and remain balanced on just one leg. I help Freckles up as she touched her burn scar, which is where Father shoved her at. I hugged her, comforting her, and she hugged me back as we stared at Father in shock and confusion. What's up with him?

"I think Father isn't okay," Freckles commented. "Not since his face became all bandaged up."
"I think it's more than a small injury," I agreed with Freckles. "He's been acting strangely for a while. He wasn't fazed when the wife he loved dearly walked out of here and never came back."
"He also made us wear these strange outfits and grow out my bangs, and he made you wear a eye patch."
"It's strange. He wasn't bothered by those things before."
I nodded in agreement. Father made Freckles wear a boy's green sailor uniform and grow out her shaggy brown hair to cover up her burn scar. Sure, it was unsightly to most but he wasn't bothered by it before when he took us in.
On the other hand, I was forced into a dark blue, button down shirt, a white floral dress and brown clogs.
"To be honest, I fell like he's playing dress up with us," Freckles sighed.
I heard cheering of the other kids and we turned to see Jumbo running around with Dagger on his shoulder as they joined the singing, circling kids. Her face lit up at the change of subject. "Let's go and see if he'll d the same with us!" Freckles laughed as she grabbed my hand and ran over towards Jumbo.

"Look!" Freckles squealed. "Joker finally got his, pro...proth..."
"Prosthesis," Jumbo corrected her.
"Yeah!" I cheered. "His prothesis!"
Jumbo sighed but smiled at my mispronunciation of a word he jut said. We watched as Joker examined hie arm in awe. "I feel stronger than before!" He smiled.
"How much stronger?" Freckles and I asked him.
He scooped up Beast, who was sitting on the grass mining her own business, into his arms bridal-style. She yelled at what he did and shoved his head to the side, sending him the message to put her down. "Strong enough to lift you up like I promised!" He laughed.
Freckles and I cheered. "Now they can finally get the proth...pros...aw, forget it, the fake limbs they need!" We squealed.
