I was catching Smile looking at me.

I felt his eyes on me and whenever I glance over my shoulder I see his eyes on me.

It honestly creeps me out. And I can't read his face whenever he does that, so I don't know why he's staring at me. Is he watching my every move so I can't plot his death again? Is it because he's enforcing who has the power here? Is it because he pities me?

Or...is it because he's actually fallen in love with me?

Whenever I think of that as an possibility, I shake it from my mind. No, Violet, you can't let your mind wander into that again. The reminder of what happened to, Freckles, Snake, my family and I when I trusted and loved Smile prevents me from falling in love with him again.

Call it extreme, but it's how I coped with my heartbreak, actually.

I was starting to get sick of the stares Smile gave to me every day. So, one day, I was in the living room, by the sewing machine. I pulled open the drawer and found the sewing scissors used to cut cloth. I flipped it in my hand, remembering how Dagger used the flip the knives in his hands whenever he was bored. I grew sad at the memory but hardened up, gripping the scissors in my hand as I grabbed hold of my braid in my other hand, holding the scissor by the braid.

"If I can't figure out why Smile is staring at me, I'll give him a reason not to," I mumbled, taking in a deep breath.

Snip!

I watched as the tresses tumbled out of my hand and onto the floor. I picked up the thick braid, throwing it into the nearby waste bucket meant for scraps as I fluffed my hair, looking at my reflection in the window. My hair didn't look so bad, as it reached my shoulders, even though due to the chop it looked slightly uneven at the edges. I'll have to ask Freckles later to trim my hair so that it can even it out.

Finished with my work, I stepped out of the living room and headed over to upstairs where Mey-Rin was

Finished with my work, I stepped out of the living room and headed over to upstairs where Mey-Rin was. Once I she heard my footsteps, she turned around, basket of dirty laundry in hand. "There you are Vi--!" She screamed as she dropped the basket.

"What?" I blinked at her. "Somethin' the matter?"

"Y-Y-Y-Your h-h-hair!" She squealed, pointing at my head.

"My hair?" I asked until I remembered what I had just done. "Oh yeah. I cut it. So?"

"It's just that I really liked it," Mey-Rin sighed, grabbing the dropped laundry and placing it back in the basket. "I liked how you braided your hair. You were always so good with your hands!"

"...Oh," I replied as I accompanied her down the stairs where Black was headed up. I saw him do a double take once he saw how I looked but he continued his way upwards. "If you liked how I do my hair, you could always ask. It's really no big deal, I can braid your hair."

"It's not that," Mey-Rin shook her head. "You look good with a braid, why did you cut it?"

"It's...time for change, I guess," I mumbled as we continued with this day's task.

"Blimey!" Cried Freckles during dinner time. She grabbed my shoulders and spun me around, looking at me from all angles. Even Snake was looking at me as well.

"'I think you you looked a lot better with your braid." ...I agree with you, Wordsworth," Snake contiued.

"Why'd you cut your hair like that Violet?"  Freckles asked me.

"I've been asking her that question all day!" Mey-Rin added. "She gives me the same answer, but I don't think she's telling the truth."

"It's time for change," I shrugged.

"Aw, and I thought she'd give you a different answer since you two and Snake are so close," Mey-Rin sighed as she left us three alone.

I leaned in close and whispered, "Smile's been keepin' an eye on me these past few days. I thought cuttin' my hair and makin' it look ugly would take his eyes off me for a while. "

"I see," Freckles nodded.

"Besides," I smiled to myself as I played with the short strands. 'I think this new look is growing on me."

An awkward silence fell between us as I sweated bullets, feeling like I said something wrong. I let out an awkward cough as Freckles turned and walked away from me, Snake joining her as well. "I officially divorce you as my best friend!" She yelled, throwing her arms in the air.

"Wait!" I cried comical tears as I ran after her. "I makin' a joke when I said that!"
