I jumped to the ground, landing hard. To be surrounded by other humans, for the first time in months, felt amazing, and surreal. The camp seemed to have things in order. Shelter, structure, and I assumed food and water.

What it lacked was permanency.

All these people were waiting for circumstances to change. For things to get better, for the flood to clear, for life to go back to normal. All things I doubted would ever come.

They were also waiting for help. Which was also doubtful.

When a disaster happens in one place, the rest of the world is able to respond. When a disaster is widespread, people can only protect themselves.

I knew, as I'm sure many of them had realised, that the situation was not going to get better. Not on it's own.

But I had an advantage. An escape.

I could help.

And I would do everything I could to help them. These people were my neighbors. Maybe we had passed each other on the street. If I was lucky, my family might still be alive, somewhere within these tents.

The pod was already attracting attention from the moment we landed. People gathered and stared. I had a huge card to reveal. And the best part was, Althar couldn't argue.

"Listen up!" I shouted.

"I know things are bad and I want you to know that we're here to help. There's a space ship circling Earth with the capability to produce food, and house tens of thousands of people. It has a medical unit that can help the sick and injured. And it might just have the technology to fix the problems you're experiencing here on Earth."

At first the crowd was silent. Everyone stared at me.

"What the hell is she talking about?" A man's voice called.

"Aliens - You seriously expect us to believe..?" Someone else questioned.

I climbed back into the pod.

Althazar was waiting in his seat. He had heard my speach and had a worried and disapproving look on his face.

I didn't care.

I took his hand and dragged him out into the open.

People gasped, jaws dropped. And suddenly my story became a lot more real to them.
