Anna's POV
We all reached Malcolms house at exactly 5:00 pm the next day. We sat in a circle on the ground in his room, and no one said anything.
Finally, Sam said, "I've got to go to the hospital to visit him. He hasn't woken up yet, lets get this over with. Im sure he didn't jump because we were on the roof, and he was extremely happy, and I left him for a minute to go to the washroom, and I found him like that."
"But who would do such a thing?", I asked.
No one said anything. We all looked grim.
"The police will come and question us, so are we clear that none of us knows anything?", Gayle asked.
We looked at each other. Then Grace said, "Rachel, did you see anything? I saw you go to the roof, like, 2 minutes after them. You must have seen something."
"What? No, I didn't see anything..."
"Are you sure?", Grace pressed on, "anything, however insignificant you may think it to be?"
"No, I was on the roof, and I saw Kyle proposing, yeah, and then I left. There were many exits, Sam probably left from one that wasn't in my line of sight."
Grace's POV
I did not believe it. I didn't believe anything that Rachel had said, because she had told me that she liked Sam, and now Kyle had been attacked. If I had to take a guess, I would've said her name.
"How is it possible that you didn't see Sam leave?"
"Why are you asking me all these questions?", Rachel asked, not meeting my eyes.
"No reason"
We talked for an hour more, then Sarah, Rachel and Anna said they had to leave, and Gayle decided to go with them.
Sam, Malcolm, and I were left.
"It's gonna be okay", I said, "He's gonna wake up"
"Well, hopefully he does", Sam said, fighting back tears.
Malcolm looked at me.
"You think she did it?", he asked me.
"Did what?"
"Pushed him off the roof?"
"What are you talking about?", Sam said.
"I think you know", I said.
"You think Rachel pushed my boyfriend off the roof?", Sam asked, shocked, "why would she do that?"
"Yeah, what would be her motive?", Malcolm said.
I debated whether to tell them, and I decided to do it.
"A while ago, she told me something and made me promise not to tell anyone, and I'd like you guys not to tell anyone as well. Whether she's done it or not, she's still our friend."
"Sounds ok to me", Malcolm said.
"But if that's the reason she tried to kill my boyfriend...", Sam whispered.
"Then you wont say anything.", I said, "She told me, and if the police needs it, then I'll be the one to tell them. So, are we agreed?"
Sam nodded.
"Okay, so, a few weeks ago, Rachel told me that she had a crush on Sam, and I thought, whats the harm in it, and I didn't give it another thought until now. Now, because of that, it seems very likely that it is her, but none of us is gonna volunteer to tell the police this, we will only speak if questioned, and we're accused of obstruction of justice, deal?"
Malcolm nodded. Sam looked off into the distance, apparently not comprehending anything.
"Sam, you okay?", I asked.
She still didn't respond. I was about to go up to her and wave my hand in her face, when she suddenly looked into my eyes.
"My best friend tried to kill my boyfriend", she whispered, her eyes wide.
\*_*/
I decided to go to the hospital with Sam, because in her current state, She'd probably get herself killed under a car, or something.
I bought her a hot chocolate on the way, because, comfort food.
We reached the hospital, and Sam asked to be alone with Kyle. I went to the vending machine, and bought a pack of gummy bears.
After twenty minutes, Sam came out, her face ashen.
"What happened?", I asked.
"I just talked to the doctor", she said.
"And what did he say?" I did not have a good feeling about this.
"The doctor said that Kyle had gone into a coma, and if he didn't wake up within a week, they would declare him braindead", she said, and curled up on the chair, and started crying.
My eight packet of gummy bears fell to the ground, untouched, and I hugged Sam supportively.
I would be with her every step of the way.
