Kyle's POV

My mom and I had always had a complicated relationship. Actually, she wasn't my mum. She was my stepmum. My mum had died when i was 3, and my father remarried, because he didn't think he could take care of me.

My stepmum always thought that my dad had married her only because he couldn't take care of me, but I knew that wasn't true. He truly loved her.

Ever since she came  into my life, she's been trying to get rid of me. When I was 4 years old, she came to get me from school, and told me to cross the road alone, because the car was parked on the other side, and she wanted to talk to my teacher. I almost died that day. My dad was furious, but she managed to convince him that he didnt mean to sendThe me by myself.

Other such incidents made it very clear to me that she didnt want me around, so I stayed out of the way as much as possible.

The day of the party, she asked my dad if she could drop me there, and he agreed. I couldn't openly refuse, because that would put her on guard, and make her kill me immediately.

I was worried that she would try to kill me in a car crash, but then she would die too, and there was Sam. She wouldn't kill Sam because her parents were friends with my stepmom in school.

That night on the roof was the best night of my life. I should've known it was too good to be true. I thought I was safe, but apparently I was not.

I just wish I could tell everyone who it really was, I didn't want everyone thinking that I'd tried to kill myself, because then, I'd just be branded as a coward. Also, I didn't want anyone innocent getting caught in the crossfire, because my Stepmother cleaned op after herself pretty damn good.

There was no way anyone would know it was her unless I woke up.

I had to wake up.

For Sam at least, if not for justice.

Sams POV

I was supposed to be studying for the finals, but I just couldn't concentrate. Kyle and I would always study together. And then we quizzed each other. And then we would listen to music at the highest volume possible until my mum came up the stairs and kicked Kyle out of the house. Then Kyle would go around the back of the house, I would lower the ladder, and he would come back up to my room, and more often than not, we fell asleep, kissing.

I never knew what he told his mum where he'd been all night, or why he didn't call, or anything. Every time I asked, he would smile his crooked bad boy smile, and say, "thats for me to know and you to find out, babe"

And I had not found out.

I felt the tears coming again, and cut off that line of thought.

A knock on the door pulled me out of my reverie.

Grace walked in. "Have you understood anything in this freakish chapter?", she demanded.

I shook my head, smiling weakly. "Neither have I. Have you bothered to even study?"

I shook my head again.

"Then lets get this done with and go get some ice cream."

I nodded again, and pulled the book towards me.

*~*~*

After what felt like a century, we finally finished studying the freakish chapter, and went out for ice cream.

It helped cheer me up, and I was myself for a while, cracking the corniest jokes, and laughing at them like the lame human I was.

After I got home, I decided to skip dinner and go up to bed, but no matter what I did, I couldn't sleep.

So, at about 1 am, I snuck out of the window, and went to see my boyfriend.
