Underpaw

Chapter Thirteen

"Sunset!" Marigold gasped as the thick-furred ginger she-cat stared them down with beaming yellow eyes.
The queen's nose twitched, "you smell of the SnowSet Colony... Spies!" She declared lashing her tail in fury. Sunset turned as if to go wake up the others when Lightning stepped forward.
"Wait! We came to warn you! Snow is planning an attack in one moon, when then full moon is at its highest she will strike" he meowed raising a paw in defence.
Marigold nodded slowly.
Sunset looked doubtful, but then her eyes softened.
"I'm sure Snow has filled you with lies about what really happened between us... The night we ran away from one another"
"Snow doesn't really talk about that kind of stuff, all she does is gather innocent, starving cats' prey" Marigold meowed looked at her paws shyly.
"Well, we used to be close. But then... But then our father, Hail, found out about a group of cats living underground. He joined them, that group of cats sent him absolutely crazy and sent him to kill our mother, Dawn, in which he succeeded, but thankfully me and Snow were able to chase him off. Snow and I were now all alone with no one but each other, she wanted us to join our father's old group but I refused which is why we had that terrible fight. She ended up joining them and becoming there leader, those cats were her pure ones. I also found a cat group that had left the one Snow found when they started sending out cats to kill... And things just escalated from there." Sunset meowed wrapping her tail around her body.
"I-I'm sorry to hear that" Marigold meowed padding up to the queen, Lightning stopped her by putting his tail on her shoulder.
"Prepare your cats, we are ready to fight against Snow" he meowed his amber eyes glinting in the dark tunnel.
Sunset looked up, "you need to leave" she meowed. "Go now before the night path finds you, I'll coup er up your scent but you need to leave now"
Marigold and Lightning shared a glance, "of course" they mewed in synch.
By the time they got back to their nests dawn light had already begun to shine down into the centre of the colony.
"Princess Marigold! Wake up! Snow is holding a meeting" Titanium meowed poking her head into Marigold's den.
"Coming" Marigold sighed p, she had barley a wink of sleep.
The small tortoiseshell and white she-cat followed the silver tabby down the winding tunnels until they were in the centre. Snow was sat on her perch, the pure ones were siting on rocks and the rest of the colony was sitting on the mossy floor.
"Come one, we added a rock for you" Mosaica meowed from her rock.
A smaller rock that had a ring of flowers around it was now visible right next to Lightning's, her heart fluttered as she sat down next to him.
That feeling...
"Hello my subjects!" Snow started. The colony cats cheered with joy.
"As you know we have not renovated these tunnels in awhile, so I thought what more perfect for the upcoming winter then extending our tunnels!"
Bramble had a toothy smile on his face as she said that, and Titanium and Shadow shared a glance of deviance.
What is Snow up to now? Marigold thought with a flick of her tail.
"As you know there is a tunnel right here in the centre that has a dead end, we are going to make two short tunnels extending from that one, which will be longaguted, but they will all lead to the same spot. Trainers, you will have your trainees widen the walls of the tunnels so there is lots of space, the strong cats will dig the tunnels. We will start tonight!" Snow yowled.
The colony burst into a cheer, it was like they were brainwashed.
Marigold looked at Lightning, he had fear in his eyes.
"What's wrong?" She whispered.
"Those tunnels... They are going to lead right into the Sunset Colony's tunnel source, they may not be safe after all"
