The past three days with Adam had been a huge blur and now my stomach was in knots. I slipped my black heels and a took a long look at my reflection in the mirror, my slim body was covered by an also slim black dress and my hair was pinned up.
"Babe! Hurry, we have five minutes to leave!" Adam called from the kitchen.
I put my earrings in and rushed out of the room. He was sitting at the kitchen table working on a new song, and him sitting there bent over the table with a pencil in his hand, made my stomach flutter even more. Adam had on black skinny jeans, a black dress shirt and a black skinny tie. All the black made his fair skin stand out, and his eyes and hair blend in even more.
"You look beautiful."
"I'm nervous, really nervous," I sighed, "Isn't it fucked up bringing your new girlfriend to the girlfriend you cheated on with me to her funeral?"
"I don't care, I need you there and I didn't cheat on her. I kissed you ONE time while we were together, once!"
"You made out with me, that was no kiss, and you also said you had no feelings for me that night, remember?" My heart swelled at the thought of that night.
"I'll make out with you again to shut you up, don't push it."
"Threatening me with making out isn't much of a threat," I traced his jawline with my index finger and kissed him.
"Whatever, let's go, we don't have much time until it starts."
The ride there wasn't so bad, only about ten minutes but Adam's terrible music selection made it seem like an hour.
"Finally! We're here!" I opened the car door, hopped out and slammed it behind me.
"Don't pretend you don't love my man, B.O.B," Adam jumped out of the car as well.
"Not nearly as good as Maroon 5. My man Adam Levine could drive me anywhere with his band playing," I bit my lip.
"Now I have competition with a guy named Adam? What kind of name is that?" he laughed and took my hand, leading me into the building where the wake was.
"I'm nervous, Adam."
"Don't worry, we'll only be there for like fifteen minutes," he leaned down and kissed me reassuringly.
We walked in and immediately were greeted by a sea of black. Everyone there was dressed from head to toe in it.
"Adam Young?" Someone from beside me called.
Both of our heads turned and I saw a girl about our age with long, smooth blonde hair, clear blue eyes and light pink lips.
"Hey, Annmarie. Jen, this is Annmarie Taylor, one of Lindsey's cousins. Annmarie, this is my girlfriend, Jennifer Casey," Adam introduced us and smiled.
"You can call me Jen, if you want," I offered.
"Okay, hello Jen," she brightly smiled.
"I'm going to go mingle, you stay here with Annmarie, okay?" Adam instructed and walked away.
"So, you're his girlfriend."
"Yeah, he just said that, haha," I laughed.
"Cut the crap, Jennifer. I've been trying to make a move on Adam ever since Lindsey introduced us, so back say off," the blonde snarled.
"Excuse me? You've been trying to get with your dead cousin's boyfriend?" I snickered, "Real mature."
"Just back off. Adam's too hot for someone like you, he's perfect for someone like me, though."
"I'm pretty sure he wouldn't choose someone who goes behind their own family's back, I don't have time for you, goodbye, Annmarie," I shook my head and walked away.
But even as I slowly walked away, I got the feeling that that wouldn't be the last time I'd see Annmarie Taylor.
