There Adam lay, on my door mat, passed out. Or sleeping, I couldn't tell.
I bent down, and tapped him, smelling alcohol on him.
"Adam?" I nudged him again.
His words from weeks before rang through my head, "By the way, I don't drink", he'd said.
"Huh?" He woke up and looked around.
"You're drunk, aren't you?" I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Uh, maybe?"
"I have a date in an hour, you'll be out by then."
"With who? Don't you want me?" Adam widened his eyes.
"We are not together anymore," I reminded him.
"I still like you, I still want you," he licked his lips.
"You're drunk. Come on," I lifted him, he was heavy but he helped me.
Sydney looked confused, but I just shook my head and took him into my bedroom. I laid him onto the bed and turned all the lights off, hoping he'd just sleep.
I walked out, and gave Sydney a hopeful look, "Are you...uh, doing anything tonight?"
"No. No, I am not babysitting that drunk," she firmly said.
"Please, please. I can't have him and I know he won't leave! Just please," I begged.
"You owe me so much coffee," she laughed and I broke out into a smile.
"Thank you so much, thank you so much!"
"Jen..." Adam's voice came floating out from the bedroom and I cringed.
I walked in and he was sitting up, on my phone. Looking at my messaged and recent calls.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Why'd you call Tristan and text him? I still want you!" he sounded so helpless.
"Because I broke up with you, and you moved on and I need to!" I screamed.
"I didn't move on, I didn't, you never let me explain from before. I remember now!" Adam moved to get closer, but was stopped by the ringing door bell.
I left the room and got the door, seeing Tristan in a black suit with a black bow tie, looking gorgeous.
"Hey there," he smiled, his amazing crooked smile.
"Hey, I'll be out in a sec, you can come in though."
"Alright, I made reservations for 7:30 so we have a little time to kill anyway," There he went, killing me with that smile again.
I went to go see Sydney checking on Adam, giving him water, and said I was leaving.
"Jen? Why're you leaving?" Adam cried.
"I have a date. I told you. Good bye, Adam," I bit the inside of my cheek.
I left, and heard Adam ask, "Why doesn't she like me anymore?"
"Okay, I'm ready, let's go!" I smiled and Tristan linked his arm through mine.
Tristan drove me to the restaurant, called Brennon's, an Italian place. Not a very Italian name, but Tristan said the food was really good.
He opened the door for me and led me to the restaurant, getting us seated right away. I ordered ravioli and he ordered zitti, and as we waited we talked.
