Susan
i starred blankly at the wall in front of me. nothing had changed, even though i like to believe it had. No, the world was still a cruel, dark, place, and if it found any ounce of light it crushed it. i sighed waiting till nightfall, that was when all the real pain started. i was tired and scarred that it now came to me as a second nature. i had always been this way and i wanted to die. to escape this hellish dungeon with a witch who loved to play mortal games.
the girl i always saw, yelled at me constantly telling me to run to her. sometimes i could see her, like a ghost or an angel guiding me out. but i couldn't follow her, or speak to her or tell her to stop yelling. if i did the witch would know, she would find out and put this other girl with another life in danger. i couldn't do that. i knew not the strange girl or why she was there watching all my torture take place. it was strange for a girl who once had it all; the beauty, the money, the family; to fall so low. but i guess that alcohol does that to most. my father had sold everything we had in our beautiful manner in England to a gambling game when i was so young. we were on the streets, my father always hesitant to go to his sister for help. now i know why, the whore was a dealer of people and in the night my father was murdered and i was sold off to the witch i know had to call my Lady.
at first i had been alright, i was the servant girl who complained too much. now i was the play toy, Will had changed that all. i had met him on one of my errands, i wasn't meant to dally but the gowns i saw reminded me of home. Will had come up laughing at my state of clothes, but who of noble blood wouldn't. as a child i was a demon, if you think children can be innocent you are wrong. i was the one who laughed, who ordered, who acted like i was more than the servants who tolerated me. now i was one and i was in their shoes. i have regretted everything i have done to my old house.
but Will was different, as soon as i turned around his eyes were full of concern for not only a split second. he was a very handsome young man; black hair that came to his jaw, bangs that barely covered his eyebrows. olive, tan skin, with a healthy glow. he was tall and strong, built to be a rider and warrior, he was a Scottish Lord, i supposed that was how they all looked.
i was taken with him his deep forest green eyes, that studied me with a hunters gaze. i usually didn't care who saw me in my rags, but for once in a very long time i did. my heart was beating, racing, faster than i could think. after wards i had snapped back for honestly i was tired as being treated worse than the town whore. he had laughed at me! and gosh it was so heavenly, it had been so long since i had heard someone laugh. i starred at him quizzically.
"What have you never heard someone laugh?" he asked, a smile so pure and innocent still on his face.
"Of course i have, who do you take me for!" i lied, laughing was completely alien to me.
he grinned and afterwards we walked and spoke together. most of the village people gave me nasty glares but i was used to it by now. they watched with odd looks as Will lead me down past all the shops. i had tried standing more like a lady now, trying desperately to remember all the lessons i had learned long ago. without realizing the time the bell clock tower rang, making me realize i had been gone too long, which meant the pain would be even more unbearable.
i ran telling Will i was needed some where else but he didn't get a chance to hear my name or more, only that i would visit him again later. later on i made excuses to go see Will, and i would often find him waiting for me, his white stallion at his side. but once i was followed, thankfully i had come earlier so i was waiting for Will but the witch saw me waiting.
she came up behind me in a mad screaming furry. most of the towns' people knew her and most of the time they were unaware that they let their children be watched by a monster. she pulled me and and started pulling me back to the house screaming on how i left all my chores for the others to do. i screamed and cried, calling out for help but no one helped me. Will came running, his sword drawn and screamed in a furry. i could see his other two brother came running as well. a fleeting moment of hope came and then i watched helplessly as one of her two "sons" picked me up throwing me over its shoulder, oblivious to all the punches and kicks i gave. the other came and drew his own blade and began to fight Will's two brothers. Will crept behind and i yelled for help again, now the people were starting to get worried, with their ruler's sons fighting off the "Good Folk". Will was about to jump onto me when the thing that carried me swung his fist and sent Will flying into a barrel. i watched helplessly screaming for help, his brother's heard and rushed to him. he was out cold, a cut in his lip already giving a trail of blood.
now here i was waiting. i knew that death would come to me soon and i begged it. though the witch is evil she has one weakness, power. and with little power i had i sent Will off in to another world to get the girl who knew where i was, who could help me. i didn't know if he had made it until i saw one of the brother's die and his blade. he stood proud and i longed to see him again.
i heard the rattling of chains and i prepared my self mentally and physically for the day's torture. the Witch came up cackling and speaking in words i had come to block out, i knew that she was making fun of me, and my former self.
"Milly, has just...left... i need you to be the new servant girl." the Witch said.
"You killed her." i stated
"Yes, she forgot what pain felt like, besides don't you want to leave here, give this room to another girl?" she asked with a laugh.
my heart twisted in two, i wanted to leave i wanted to run away, to let another girl deal with the witch's love of torture. but then who was i to condemn someone from their life. i glared at the floor, tears forming in my eyes. i sadly knew what had to be done, i could not handle this anymore, but i am not one to punish.
"No." i stated looking up to her.
the witch's smile turned into a sneer and she slapped me hard across the face.
"Fine, rot here. You need to clear your sentence anyways, your father owed me." she hissed before she left me alone.
