i led the boys down the familiar halls. i could tell you that in every corner and every room i have watched Susan get tortured in. the halls were just like a remember, hot, small, damp and slowly escalating down. i could feel the water level rising and i picked up speed, Jonathan was jogging  in front of us all trying to find Susan first. i finally had to call him back to show him the right way to go.

"Follow the road that goes down." i snapped.

jonathan nodded and ran ahead, opening and closing doors. i stopped, looking at the door straight down the middle. i knew what was in there, i knew who was in there. i pointed to it, Jonathan took off running there and swung the door open. we all stepped in, there was a very small window at the very top of the room and the room was halfway up with water. i heard the movement of chains coming from the south side of the room. i waded to the sound, as i got closer i saw more and more the outline of Susan. her untamed hair that i believed brown, her gown in rags, her pale skin.

"Susan!" Jonathan yelled running to her.

she weakly looked up to us crying. her eyes widened when she saw us and tried desperately to speak to us.

"you came." she croaked out as Jonathan hugged her tightly.

she looked at me and started to cry, but this time out of joy.

"Thank you!" she rasped.

"I would never let my best girl down." i said whipping my own tears.

she gave me a broken smile, that slowly was coming to repair itself. Jonathan tugged on her chains but it wouldn't budge.

"let me." Adolf said walking over.

Jonathan handed him the chain, Adolf took it and stepped back.

"I am going to need her as far away as the wall as possible." Adolf said.

Jonathan picked Susan up gently and moved her till the chain was straight. Adolf stretched his neck before he gave a giant hard rip. the noise startled me and i flinched, he was so fast. with a grin he held up the chain that still had rock and piece of the wall. Gavin stared at him in shock but shrugged it off.

"We better go before this place is covered in water." Gavin said.

we followed him out. Jonathan carried Susan and i carried the chains. when we got up we saw an elegant carriage rushing up the hill. we all knew Mrs. Blair was there but we could do nothing. the biggest thing was to get Susan back home. my heart ached for home, my new home, Sophie would be gone by then. i don't regret my decision for staying.

by the time we got back to Castle Evans Susan already looked healthier and this time i could clearly tell she had red hair. it was a dark, fiery red that somehow my brain transitioned as brown. Laird Evans was so glad to have us all back, he kissed Susan's forehead and she cried with joy.

we were all so happy, except for Gavin. he put on a smile when we were all there but the times he thought no one was looking we could see how sad and devastated he looked. Sophie had gone later the same day we left, Laird Evans had been truly sorry for Gavin but he left without a word to anyone.

i walked the halls i had come to be so used too. i had a book in my hand as i turned into the library, Will taught me Scottish as much as he could. i opened my book and looked at the pictures i had Adolf print. in some weird way, there was always a moment in the day that the portal opened in both our worlds and he sent pictures through and even charged my phone. Adolf had left as soon as we had arrived at the castle, i occasionally wrote him and my other friends letters telling them all about Scotland in this time. i never got anything back except from Adolf telling me what had happened.
