The school looked terrible. Parts of the brick wall were torn out and spread across the parking lot. The inside was even worse. There were desks, pencils, and other school supplies across the ground in the hallways. There was even blood splattered around the place. That means there were people in the building. I picked up a sharp piece of metal off the ground just in case and told Jenn to follow me. We walked to the other side of the school to My favorite teachers classroom. I was already shaking when I turned the cold, metal doorknob. What I saw scarred me for life. There she was. Mrs. Johnson was dead. Her body was just lying there with a chair leg through her stomach. I started to cry but I realized there is no point. Sobbing about her death wasn't gonna do anything so Jenn helped me drag the body out the door. We found some blankets behind her desk and lied them
Down on the cold, tile floor. It still smelt of blood and saltwater but we dealt with it.
The next morning was terrible. I woke up to the sound of banging on glass. I immediately stood up once I saw who was at the door. Somehow is was Mrs. Johnson. I was going to open the door but then I noticed, she still had the chair leg through her stomach and she wasn't talking. She was just... growling? The door had bloody handprints on it.
"What is that..." Jenn asked, confused
"I have no fucking Idea..." I answered
All of the sudden Mr. Johnson. Or what used to be her started to mash her head against the glass until it cracked. The cracks spread across the glass like crumples on a paper.
Jenn screeched as the glass shattered and the "creature" fell into the room. We both sprinted to the door and closed it as fast as we could.
"We need to go... I don't know what that is but there's probably more in here..." Jenn said.
I agreed so I followed her to the entrance. Right before we opened the door I noticed something. A corpse in the yard... stood up? The instance it stood up it started to slowly limp towards us. The other corpses did the exact same thing. What was happening? Were they... zombies?! I noticed a police belt on the ground. There were handcuffs on it so hurriedly took them and used them to tie the door handles together so the "zombies" couldn't get in. Suddenly, an ear-piercing screech came from the cafeteria. A dark skinned little girl with dreadlocks came running out of the Gym.
"ITS HAPPENING! LETS GO!"
It was too late though. Outside there was a cone of dirt and wind forming in the parking lot.
"Let's go to the back door!" I commanded as we all ran to the other side of the school. I could hear parts of the roof being ripped off behind us but I knew we could survive... somehow... once we reached the back door it was locked. I sweated under my breath as I tried to open the door.
"Here ya go" Jenn said as she handed me a chair. I lifted up the chair and swung it at the glass door. The glass shattered and we all stumbled out onto the baseball field. Turf started to fly everywhere because of the tornado. The cloud of black specs made it extremely hard to see. The small black girl wrapped her hand around my pointer finger. I told her everything would be okay even though I had no idea if that was true. We dashed toward the woods. Halfway there I noticed the little girl was slowing down so I picked her up and carried her the rest of the way. While we were walking through the woods because the tornado went the other direction, I saw something glistening out of my peripheral vision. I turned to the left to see what was there. It was a light blue painted house with a fridge just lying in the backyard. The backyard was guarded by a white picket fence but it looked short enough to jump. When we were in the backyard I placed the little girl in a lawn chair and headed over to the rusty metal refrigerator. I clutched on to the handle and pulled upward to reveal a few boxes of cereal and... A HEAD?! Anxiety rushed through my body and I felt vomit rushing up my Throat. I let go of the handle and ran over to puke in a prickly, dying rose bush. When I was done, the foul taste of vomit still ate at my taste buds but I tried to ignore it.
"W-what was in there?" Jenn questioned nervously
I gulped for emphasis then mumbled "A head, there was a fucking head..."
Jenn's face filled with worry almost immediately. She questioned why but I told her I had no idea. I told her to not tell the little girl and she agreed. We both approached the little girl and kneeled down in front of her.
"What's your name?"
She coughed violently then mumbled "Sabrina".
"Okay Sabrina, you are gonna hang out with us now. Make sure not to stray far, and we are gonna take that backpack you have."
She nodded her head then we headed inside the house. The instant I opened the cracked glass door, a terrible smell filled the air. I would've vomitted again but I had no food left in my stomach. I reached into the little girls backpack to find a few water bottles, a flashlight, and some kind of Journal. I pulled out the flashlight and used it to illuminate the pitch black interior of the home. We searched the home for people and agreed it was safe to stay in for the time being. I found a box of cereal in a cupboard that we shared while we looked at some soggy Glamour magazines.
After a few hours of reading about how to do makeup and how to have a healthy diet we decided to go to bed. Jenn and I slept in the Master bedroom and Sabrina slept in the kids bedroom.
