"Yasmin? Are you ready to go?"

You hurry and finish the last sentence in your dream journal before slamming it shut and shoving it into its drawer. You couldn't let a dream like last night's go unrecorded! You can still vividly remember Will's face and voice, and the feeling of falling through nothing. You don't usually remember your dreams so clearly.

You swing your backpack onto your shoulders and run out after your mom, who's already in the car. She's insisting on driving you this time, so she can see the Pines again. You're reluctant—what if all the adults start chatting like they do, and you never even get to go down into the lab?—but there's no deterring her.

You slide into the car, and your mom starts it up. Pacifica Elise Northwest-Larson looks immaculate, as always, and you thank your lucky stars once again that she doesn't care about your appearance as much as she does hers. After all, you're just in jeans, a t-shirt, and a braid.

"Ready?"

You shake your head. "Not in the slightest. Let's go."

She smiles and backs the car out.

Ten minutes later, you pull into the Pines driveway—or, the large clearing surrounding the house. You open the door and jump out before your mom is even out, hoping to catch Dipper and get started before he can get too distracted talking to your mom. It's a selfish hope, but a hope nonetheless.

"Paz!"

A Mabel-shaped bullet comes tearing out of the house, running for your mother. Startled, you almost jump in between them, but Mabel stops before running Pacifica over and instead gives her a hug.

"Mabel! It's so great to see you!"

You watch the two reunite for a moment before sneaking away towards the house.

"Yes, and Yasmin is such a joy—" you hear your mom say. Okay, maybe you'd better sneak a little faster. You loved your mom and all, but she can talk to her friends forever, and you want to start your apprenticeship!

"Pacifica Northwest," says a voice from the doorway.

You freeze in your tracks. That's Dipper, and he's standing in the doorway, and he's seen your mom. Now you're never going to get to go down to the lab!

"Northwest-Larson," Pacifica corrects with a smile. She and Mabel are headed this way. "It's so great to see you, Dipper."

He steps out onto the porch, and there's a small path through the door. Maybe you could just slip inside and go wait on the couch?

"Yasmin?" Dipper says. "Do you want to go down to the lab and wait for me there?"

Oh, thank goodness. You nod and slide past the adults before anyone can protest. You don't hate being around people, it's just. . . harder to stand it when your mother is the center of attention. She's really good at it, too.

You linger by the door to the staircase, which is open. You're not sure you want to go down there all by yourself, but Dipper seemed to trust you.

Then you hear someone say, "Oh, you have to come inside and see Wendy and little Stanford!" and you're gone before you can even hear the response.
