Luckily, containing Will's powers doesn't hurt him. He complains about it at first — he got drunk on power, and it takes some time to come back from that. But within a week, he's back to his cheerful, wonder-filled self. He can even sleep now, which is a relief to everyone — Will especially, considering how bored he was staying up all night by his lonesome. The two of you go cloud-gazing, star-gazing, exploring in the forest, and other activities. It's what you hoped would happen after rescuing Will from the Gleefuls — and it took a while, but it did happen eventually.
And for that, you're content.
It does take a while before seeing or touching Will doesn't make you flinch, though. After some time, he apologizes for what he did — many times. "I forgive you, really," you say. "I just. . . give me some time." You still spend time with him, but it takes a while before you're entirely comfortable with him again.
You return to the other dimension one more time — to tell Pacifica Southeast that you're okay, that the danger is over. She reports that the Gleeful twins are safely in a hospital, healing from Will's torture; there were rumors that their show would shut down, or at least move locations. "The people here are still as depressing as ever," she says cheerfully, "but we don't have the twins to deal with anymore."
You give her a hug. "I'll come visit you sometime," you say. "If Dipper lets me use his dimension hopper. Thanks for everything."
Pacifica waves a dismissive hand. "I didn't really do anything. But you're welcome."
She gives you a bright smile as you disappear. Dipper's lab appears in a swirl of color.
"How'd it go?"
You give a little scream and jump backwards. "Oh my gosh, Will, please don't startle me like that."
He holds up his hands sheepishly. "Sorry."
You try to force your heart rate down. "Well — it went well. The twins are going to be okay, it sounds like."
Will just nods. You're not sure if he regrets hurting them, or if he's forgiven them for hurting him. You don't ask.
"Guess what," he finally says.
You put the dimension hopper away — locked away, next to the device that holds Will's powers. "What?"
"The naiads said we could go swimming in their pond. They won't even try to drown you!"
You laugh, a little nervously. "I think I'm okay on the swimming," you say, "but I'd love to go out there and see the pond."
Will deflates a little, but doesn't lose his smile. "Okay. Should we tell your mom?"
Ah, yes. That's one thing — your mother hasn't let you near Will alone since he kidnapped you. In fact, this is the first time you've been alone with him since then. She comes with you everywhere, even areas in the forest where she doesn't like to go. Honestly, though, you don't mind.
"I think she'd skin me alive if we didn't," you say. "Maybe, if we tell her it was you who remembered, she'll trust you a little more."
Will laughs. "Probably not."
Everyone is still a little wary around him, Pacifica Northwest-Larson especially. But they're making an effort. After Will apologized profusely to Wendy for that stunt he pulled with baby Ford, she even let him play with him for a bit. Stanford, for his part, seems to have forgiven Will entirely for momentarily kidnapping him. You find that you really enjoy the sound of Will and baby Ford laughing together.
You and Will head upstairs and find Pacifica, telling her about your plans. Just as expected, she wants to come with you. Really, though, she'll probably love the naiads. "Great," you say. "Let's go!"
The three of you head out, into the forest. Will doesn't reach for you — you requested that he not initiate the touch for a little while. But you find you're feeling happy, after visiting Pacifica Southeast, and walking next to Pacifica, your mother, without her shooting wary looks at Will. The sun is shining jauntily down on you as you walk through the beautiful Gravity Falls forest.
You slip your arm in Will's, grinning at him as the two of you go out on your next adventure.
