*~Mariana's POV~*

Eric and I arrived at the library. Once we entered, Eric s walked over the scientific nonfiction section, telling me that he would "call for me" if he needed my "backup."

I tried telling him that if his friends saw him at the library then that would mean that they were here too and they'd be just as lame as he was, but he didn't believe me.

I watched Eric select a handful of books before taking them over to a table and sitting down to look through them.

I sighed.

I now had at least an hour to kill and I didn't know what section of books to look at. So I just wandered a bit, looking for anything that could catch my attention.

Finally, I found it.

I was sort of at the back now, secluded from Eric, the librarian, ad anybody else who was at the library. The books and even the shelves here were old, much much older compared to the new, clean books and shelves at the front of the large room.

It wasn't this entire back area of the library that caught my attention; it was one specific shelf in general. This shelf looked like the oldest of the books and it was labeled, "Legends."

I began scanning the shelf for anything that sounded interesting. There were "Urban Legends," "Mythical Legends," and other things like that, but nothing that really caught my eye.

...Until I saw it.

One book, simply entitled, "Legends of the Afterlife."

I grabbed the book from its shelf and sat down at an empty table. Beginning to flip through the pages, skimmimg and reading a little bit here and there, not really getting too into it.

Until I came to one legend. Entitled, "A Ghost's Human."

This reminded me of some vampire and human, Edward and Bella bullshit, but whatever. I continued to read.

'If a ghost is on Earth, even after death, they are there for one of two reasons. Either they were sent there to do one job and one job only: to haunt and scare the living. Or they're stuck. They're stuck on the Earth and can't get to where they belong: up in Heaven.

These ghosts, the trapped ones, are the scared ones. They're stuck in a world that doesn't believe in ghosts; that is clueless when it comes to their knowledge of what goes on in the afterlife. In most cases, the ghost can make it to where they belong on their own. They can accept their death and go up to Heaven where others of their kind are waiting for them.

But then there are the others. These few others either died too young or died too suddenly. They are the lost ones. The ones that need help, guidance. They help and guidance...from their human.

Most humans are too naive to believe in ghosts. But there are a few humans that believe and are willing to help. These humans will be naturally pulled to their ghost, or the ghost will be naturally pulled to their human. Either way, they find each other. And the human can help.

However, unless the intention is to scare, any interaction between living humans and those of the afterlife is strongly prohibited. If a spirit were to have intentional, direct contact with a human, it is believed that those from Hell may ride out of the ground in order to capture the spirit and claim what is now believed as theirs-'

I stopped reading right then, ending it with a gasp.

Niall.

He was trapped, stuck on the Earth and in my home.

I knew now why he was trying to scare me away earlier. He was trying to keep ME safe by avoiding me.

I had to talk to him.

Looking up at the clock on the far side of the wall, I realized that Eric and I had only been here for half an hour.

But I didn't care if he yelled at me. I HAD to talk to Niallas fast as I possibly could.

I got up, bringing the book with me. At first I considered putting it back on its shelf, but I decided against it. I might need to look at it later, and maybe Niall would need to too.

I got up and walked to the front of the library. A group of librarians were busy at the front desk, but I went up to one of them that didn't look busy with anyone that was checking out books.

"I'd like to check this out please," I muttered, placing the book up on the front desk. The librarian smiled, but his smile soon faded when he looked down at the book I wanted to check out.

"Where'd you get this?" He asked, looking back up at me. There was something weird in his eyes, like he knew something I didn't, but I didn't ask about it.

"I found it in the back," I replied honestly. I questioned whether or not I should lie, but why would I need to?

"I'm sorry, but you can't check out this book," he muttered, about to place it on a cart of books that needed to be returned.

"Wait!" I stopped him. "Why can't I?!"

"It's..." He paused. I could tell that he wanted to say something, but he didn't. "You just can't."

"Please? I need it for a project for school." I lied.

He hesitated. I was about to protest, when another librarian approached us. She looked much younger then the man I was talking to, but her face still remained serious.

"Is there a problem here?" She asked, her voice in a monotone. The other librarian quickly shook his head.

"Um no, I was just about to check out this young lady's book. No problems here!" He exclaimed in frustration. He was so flustered that he forgot to ask me for a library card when he checked out the book. "Here you go."

"Thank you!" I beamed up at him, taking the book before he could realize his mistake. I ran over to the desk where Eric was still flipping through his books.

"Eric, c'mon! Lets go!" I exclaimed, forgetting about being quiet.

"What? Why? I haven't finished yet!" He exclaimed.

"We can come here another time. Just come on!"

Eric sighed and put his books back before standing up. I sighed in relief, glad that he didn't put up a fight.

I had to get home to Niall.
