One Month Later
Mariana's POV
"Mariana, hurry up! It's time to go!" Eric shouts from downstairs. I sigh and grab the remainder of my things, before looking around at my now empty bedroom for one last time.
After Niall and his parents left, and the house was freed of demons, things have been lighter here. Cheerier. My parents were happy and my brother was, too. But every night I was plagued with nightmares. Nightmares about the demons, and nightmares about Niall, too. Every night, I would wake up screaming and somebody (usually Eric or Mom) would have to come into my room and comfort me.
Finally, a week ago, my parents announced that we were moving again. They considered moving back to our old house because the old owners moved out a couple weeks ago (I'm not sure why, but I think the woman and her husband were getting a divorce), but we decided to move to a new city all together, seeing as this house and our old home are still in the same place. My parents thought that the similar surroundings would be too much for me to bear after losing Niall. So we're moving to Texas. Why Texas, I don't know, but I think it's because that's where my mom's parents live. We found a house that's a lot smaller than this one, but Eric and I would still get our own rooms, so our parents offered a price for it and the owners ended up accepting our offer.
So, we're moving.
I sigh again and look at the door that leads up to the attic one more time. So much crazy shit happened up there, I would probably be thrown in an asylum if I tried to tell the tale to anybody who didn't witness the encounters for themselves. But everything that happened was real. I know that, and so do my parents and brother.
Forcing myself not to cry, I take my remaining stuff and walk out of my old bedroom for the very last time, shutting the door behind me. Mom is waiting for me by the staircase. A small smile graces her lips as our eyes meet.
"Your father and brother are already waiting in the car," Mom tells me, "are you sure you're ready?"
I nod and Mom wraps her arm around my shoulders as we walk down the stairs together. We exit the house and the boys are waiting for us. Dad honks the horn of the car.
"We're coming!" Mom hollers, laughing. I force myself to let out a little chuckle.
Mom and I walk to the car and she gets in the front, next to my father. I get in the backseat with Eric, who smiles softly at me. I smile back briefly before staring out the window. Dad pulls the car out of the driveway.
"We'll beat the moving van to the new house, right?" I ask my parents, resting my head on the back of Mom's seat.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe," Dad says as he continues to drive down the road.
"Maybe? I thought you said we had to beat the moving van..." My voice drifts off as I try to recall the conversation the four of us had just two nights ago. That is what he said, isn't it?
"I guess, but I think we can afford to make a little detour first," Dad responds. I hear Mom giggle and I see my idiot brother smirk from beside me.
"What?" I ask in confusion. "What detour? Where are we going?"
"Oh, you'll see," Dad says, chuckling softly to himself as he continues to drive.
I ask another question, but this time my question goes ignored by everybody in the car. I huff and sit back in my seat, crossing my arms over my chest as I silently wonder where we're going.
I don't have to wonder for long.
To my surprise, Dad stops the car in the parking lot of Memorial Garden Cemetery. This is...this is the cemetery where Niall is buried.
After Niall and his parents left a month ago, Dad called the nearby funeral home and said that he found a dead body in the house. I think even the people who work at the funeral home were freaked out, but they agreed to take care of Niall's body for us, after we told them that we would be able to identify the body for them. After we identified the body as Niall Horan, they took his skeleton away. And this is where they buried him.
"I thought you would want to say goodbye to Niall one more time," Eric says softly as his eyes meet mine. I gasp.
"This was your idea?" I ask him, feeling the tears already begin to well up in my eyes. He nods.
"Thank you," I whisper as I wrap my brother in a hug. He pretends to gag and I laugh a little as I pull away, before smacking him lightly on the arm.
The four of us get out of the car and my parents walk me to Niall's grave. It's a simple tombstone, but what's engraved on it makes me smile.
Niall James Horan
September 1925-June 1943
Even in death, he can make anybody fall in love with him
Rest in Peace
Anybody who reads the third line of the tombstone wouldn't truly understand what it means...except for us. Even in death, Niall made it possible for me to fall in love with him.
I kneel down by the tombstone, bowing my head. I only look up when Mom taps me on the shoulder and gives me a bouquet of flowers that they had been hiding in the car. I smile softly and take the flowers from her before placing them on Niall's grave.
We stay at the grave for a few more minutes while I just sit with Niall and think about everything that had happened since we moved into that house. After awhile though, Dad finally asks, "Are you ready to go, Mariana?"
I look up at Dad, hesitating a little. But finally, I nod my head.
"Yeah," I whisper, "I think I am."
Dad helps me up and the four of us walk to the car. However, before we leave the cemetery, I turn around and look back at Niall's grave. A tear rolls down my cheek.
"I love you."
