The next day, in English, it began.

You'd think that after such a perfect night, karma would come crashing down on me the next day.

Well y'all motherfuckers ain't wrong.

I remember Seryana Howell, the girl Mike was swooning over, Mike himself, another friend of mine named Dean Rainer and their class passing through the room from the gym with concerned, confused, and worried voices chattering amongst themselves. It got worse after that. The sirens outside our school started blaring so loudly that it managed to get to the point where it was more annoying than my aunt's voice.

Then it stopped. Abruptly, like a switch or something had just turned it off so suddenly that it sent chills through me. Then all the lights went out and some eerie green emergency lights cam on outside. Our teacher left the room, saying she'd be back in a few minutes. The room was dimly illuminated with the green tinted light. I could see Violet and Reuben talking to each other, something I've almost never seen because the wanted to keep their relationship a secret. Another friend of mine, Yodeliene, was looking at me with concern. I shrugged at her.

After a few minutes of speculation, I took Yodeliene with me and went over to Violet and Reuben.

"Are we gonna be here for any longer?" Yodeliene asks.

"Not if we leave," I spoke.

"That's insane. Where are we even going to go?" Reuben protests.

There's a long debate between the four of us before they eventually agreed to the plan. We left the classroom and no one bothered to pay us any attention, so we wouldn't get into any trouble.

When we entered the hallway, we could hear distant screams to the right. I shivered. What on earth could be happening?

I peered though the window of a class. There were kids walking around the class freely, and a teacher wasn't present. I spotted Mike, Seryana and Dean in the group and gestured for them to come out here. Dean saw me, he made the gesture of a key locking, telling us that the door was locked.

"The door's locked, we're gonna need to get the keys," I told my friends.

"What class is this?" Violet asked.

"Geography. They probably have the keys in the teacher's room," Taella said.

I glanced to where the screams were emitting from. I grimaced.

The others should feel lucky that they didn't have to go through this.

The more we proceeded down the hallway, the bloodier it got. There was a lot of the crimson red liquid smeared on the walls, most of which seemed to be dragged down by fingers. I started to regret not grabbing some sort of weapon before coming here.

The screaming stopped now. I don't know when, but it was dead silent now. I looked back at my friends, and they looked just as terrified as I was.

There was a light around the corner. It was our destination, and oh bloody hell was the door different. It was drenched in red instead of brown as it used to be. The sharp smell pricked my nose and I held my breath.

"We should've just broken down the door," Reuben groans.

I mentally face palmed myself. I also had a bobby pin in my pocket and Violet knew how to pick locks.

"Dammit," I cursed to myself.

I turned around, taking the easy way. My friends followed me away. When we got to the class (before Reuben could break the door down and attract the attention of literally everybody), I handed Violet the pin and she went straight to work.

After a few tries, we managed to get in. Dean, Seryana, and Mike got to us while everyone else was distracted and we slipped out undetected.

In the next class, which was thankfully unlocked, we got another friend, Venice, out.

"Jace went looking for you guys a few minutes ago. He hasn't been back since," Venice tells us.

As if on cue, a crash was heard from the direction where the cafeteria was.

"There he is," I said, walking towards the noise.

We turned the corner into the cafeteria, and yeah, Jace was there. And...someone else? Jace was trying to get that...thing off him. It was pinning him against the wall, we had to do something.

Seryana took initiative. She broke the glass cabinet nearby that encased the baseball bat some champion decades ago from our school used to win the national league. It was dumb. I guess she found it dumb as well.

She hit it square on the head, knocking it out. It wasn't human. I mean, it was, but just more violent? Cannibalistic? Much like a zombie, but no, those were fictional.

Jace breathes in and out heavily, "Thanks."

"No problem," Seryana returns.

Jace ends up coming with us since he didn't want to spend another second here. First, we head to the pantry to get some food and small weapons in case some more of those things show up.

I look around the pantry. Venice, Jace, Dean, and Yodeliene scout the place for weapons while Violet, Reuben, Seryana, and Mike go looking for food that would last a while. I'm looking for keys.

"Hey," Mike calls out, throwing me a key, "Thought you'd be interested in that."

Looks like he did my job for me.

I ended up faced with a huge metal closet. I looked at the key in my hand that Mike handed me. I inserted the key, and it fit the hole. I turned and a clicking sound came from the closet. I pulled the doors open, revealing a huge stash of weapons for god-knows-what purpose.

Why would they keep these in a high school campus?

"Guys?" I called out.

They all saw the collection of weapons. I decided that maybe it'll be okay if we take them, so we each got a weapon of our choice. I really didn't care what any of us got, as long as we could work it and defend ourselves, we'd be okay.

We headed out of the school. We took my car, since it was a pickup truck that my aunt stopped using at one point. I adopted it as my own last year. I got in the driver's seat, Dean shotgun (with his shotgun) and the rest went on the back. It was mid October, it wasn't that cold, or hot either.

Time to get each other home.
