"Emily!" Yells Ms. Larr. Even though that isn't my name. She changed it. I quickly run downstairs almost tripping, I'm not very graceful. I stand infront of her. Keeping my face barren of emotions.
"Yes, Ma'am?" I ask trying to stay respectful. Last time I didn't it was horrible.
"Did you do your chores?" She sneered. I nod not wanting to say another word.
"You liar!" She screamed at me. She slapped me. I didn't move from the hit, that happens when you have a career like me. Started when I was 10. I have to clean all 7 bathrooms. I nod.
"I'll go do them, Ma'am." I quickly leave bouncing up the stairs. Today is Saturday, I don't have to work. I clean the bathrooms, finding things I wish I didn't. Finishing in an hour and a half. I missed lunch, and forgot to eat breakfast. I'll have to wait until dinner. I go to my room. Sunday is adopting day, tomorrow. I don't think I'll get out of here until I'm 18 though. After being here since I was 8 I had friends and then they were adopted. With my brown curly hair and my blue eyes I was nothing special, except my career of course. I mean I'm not an actor or a singer but I am the best and the youngest. My boss is practically like an uncle to me. I am a secret agent. No one can know. Not even Ms. Larr knows. I could have her arrested but I liked my area and the next orphanage is in another city meaning I would have to get a new boss. I have been a bodyguard for some celebrities, they get to know though. I just act like someones kid while I'm actually keeping them alive.
Some of my coworkers offered to take me in, but I declined, rule number 23 never get close to someone in the business. If I got adopted I wouldn't tell them until I had stayed 3 years with them. Unless there was special cause. I have been adopted twice but got taken back. It's harder to work then but I make do. I sometimes wish I could just leave, I get payed very well and can support myself. I could take my car and leave, staying in the area of course. But that would take away my cover. I grabbed my iPod and shuffled the music confident by Demi Lovato came on. I started singing along. Demi is my favorite singer. I have never been a body guard for her. But I have met her while on the job. I also have a job with her soon.
Around dinner I rushed downstairs into the cafeteria. I grabbed a tray grabbing some potatoes and chicken. I sat down by myself. No one bugged me but I didn't have any friends either, I was too young for the older kids but too old for the younger kids. There were 2 older kids, they barely got here. They are twins, 16. The younger ones range from 2-10, they are the ones that leave the quickest, while older ones like me and the twins will probably stay here until were 18. People want the cute ones, the perfect ones.
I put my tray in the stack not looking back before leaving the cafeteria. I quickly changed into my worn large shirt. I quickly went to sleep. I can go back to work on Monday. It's weird some people dread going to work but it's my only time where I can be myself and not someone else or something like that. I already graduated, at work. Ms. Larr home schools until we pass fifth grade. But I graduated high school without anyone knowing besides my work.
The sun burned my eyes as I checked my watch, 6:23 I woke up late. Good thing I didn't have to work. I normally wake up at 5:20. It is good to sleep more though. I changed into my neon lights shirt and dark blue jeans that had cuts in the knees and a few small ones in the thighs and shins. I put black socks on, not bothering with shoes. It's something that I learned you can't walk about barefoot. Your feet will get covered in dirt. Very clean here.
I headed downstairs for breakfast, just how I like it empty. Not one person. People will start showing up in two hours. I put brown combat boots. They warm my cold feet right up. I quietly walk downstairs. Listening for people, I hear a very familiar voice. I just can't put my finger on it. I hope it isn't someone bad from work. They seem very confident. Could be just about anyone.
Life is about taking risks, right? I continue walking around the wall ready for anything. I was wrong I was not ready, not ready. It was Demi fricking Lovato. My inner fangirl started screaming inwardly uncontrollably. I started retracing my steps. Smiling awkwardly as Demi looked at me, she smiled her warm smile. Good thing we use disguises for work otherwise I would have a very large problem.
I continued my backwards walking, knowing this place like the back of my hand. I am such an idiot I had a chance to meet my idol I just wasted it. She probably is going to get Sarah the youngest. Sarah had bring blue eyes and gorgeous curly blonde eyes. I was jealous. She would only be here a week if that.
I calmed down enough to go back downstairs. I was so concentrated I almost ran into someone. I stopped abruptly. They did not. I stood stiff as a board. They fell backwards. I caught them by the arm quickly. Pulling her up, I could tell by her hair. It looked a lot like Demi's. She stood up. Whispering a quick thanks. She looked at me. Crap it was Demi.
My heart practically stopped, then I laughed a lot like I do alot awkward moments. I was still laughing minutes later almost crying. She just looked at me concerned now. I stopped standing up. Keeping an emotionless face.
"Hello, Ms. Lovato" I said professionally. She lifted one eyebrow. I almost laughed, almost. I kept the emotionless face.
"Hi." She replied almost laughing. I nodded curtly. I acted if though she was my boss, except not like I'll do whatever you say.
"Nice to see you." I said. I had a sweatshirt on covering my shirt. I smiled purposely as fake as possible.
"Good, it is very good to see you too Emily." She kept it going. She was almost crying from laughing silently. I kept my professional look.
"If you'll excuse me Ms. Lovato I have to get going." She nodded almost sadly. I smiled at her one I would give my boss before I left. This might be the last time I see you look.
"I hope I will see you again, Ms. Riley." She replied. How she knew my name I don't know probably asked Ms. Larr. I nodded curtly before stepping around her. I wished I'd said more, but what's the point?
