~~Clara's POV~~
The rest if the day at work was pretty boring. Only a few people came in, none of them bought anything. It is currently 7:25. I am going through the receipts from today's sales. There are only a few but we have to make sure all if the money is still there.
I come across the receipt from Patrick's purchase. I was about to move on to the next one but something catches my eye. It's a note on the back.
'Go look under the bench outside the door. See you soon - Patrick'
OH. MY. HURLEY. What is under the bench?? I run outside and look under the bench. It is an envelope. I snatch it and run back inside.I rip it open and see a piece of paper.
'So you have followed my instructions, young and wise one. You have shown skill and are worthy of my almighty present to you. See you there - Patrick'
I then out down the note and look at the other stuff in the envelope. There. Sitting in front of me. Is a ticket. And a backstage pass. To see Fall Out Boy. IN 20 MINUTES!
The ticket says that I am sitting in the front row. Yay! It also says that the concert starts at 8. I look at the clock. 7:35.
I quickly stuff the ticket, pass and note in the envelope and put it in my purse. I lock up and run down the pavement to Carytown Burgers and Fries.
I get to the small restaurant in record timing and order my veggie burger. 5 minutes later I am walking to the Coliseum, munching in my delicious burger. I finish it right as I get to the gates. I check the time on my phone. 7:56. OH CRAP.
I run up to the doors and let the lady scan my ticket and pass. As soon as she is done and I have walked through the complicated metal detectors, I find my seat.
As soon as I sit down, the guys walk out on stage. Patrick gets into place, me sitting directly in front of him. He looks at me, smiles, and nods to himself, obviously happy his plan worked.
They continued to play an amazing set, stopping to tell dumb jokes and make bad puns. Pete starts a huge wave with a spotlight. I catch a FOB beach ball during Young Volcanoes. It was magical.
Afterwards, when all if the fans had flooded out if the huge building, I made my way towards a door that said ' BACKSTAGE AREA STAFF ONLY'. I lightly knocked on the door and pulled the pass out of my purse.
A large, gruff looking man opened the door.
" Sorry kid no fan girls are allowed back here. nice try." he goes to close the door but I put up my pass. I feel like a cop, pulling my badge on a criminal. I bet I would be a good cop. Fighting crime all over the place. People would love me. I would be that cop that everybody knows about. I would make all other cops irrelevant. I'd be super awesome..
The man's eyes widen. " I apologize ma'am. Right this way please." He motions for me to follow him. I walk into the room, taking in all the glory of 'backstage'. We walk into a hallway full if doors that say 'Makeup' and 'Wardrobe' with each of the guys' names on them.
We go up to one door that says 'Lounge' at the end of the long corridor. "Mr. Stump has been expecting you." The man then walks away, leaving me alone. I knock on the door hesitantly, not wanting to bother anyone.
I hear shuffling around, then the door flys open, revealing the men of Fall Out Boy. I think I might faint.
"Are you gonna come in or just stand there?" Pete says with a chuckle from a couch on the other side of the room. I giggle and walk fully into the room. Patrick and Andy are on one couch, Pete sprawled out on another, then Joe is on another.
Joe smiles at me and pats the space next to him, signaling for me to sit down. As I do so, Patrick starts talking to Pete about how amazing his note plan was. I kind of zone out.
This is awesome. I am backstage with Fall Out Boy. Holy Shitaki Mushrooms. Joe's fro is amazing. It's just... Perfect. Without thinking, I reach out my hand and stoke the magnificent fro. It takes me a minute to realize that they are all staring at me with weird smirks on their faces.
"What?" I say to the guys, "never seen someone praise the almighty fro?"
They just stare at me. We sit there is silence for a few seconds. then we all simultaneously burst out laughing. We carry on for a few minutes, crying from laughing so hard, rolling around in the floor, clutching our stomachs.
As soon as we calm down, about 5 minutes later, they start asking me questions. Such as age, name, music interests, and I answer them all easily. Then they ask the forbidden question. "What is your family like?"
I hesitated, but answered "Umm.. my mom died from cancer when I was two. My twin sister and I lived with our dad until a few years ago... she was raped and stabbed to death..." I choke back tears. " After that my dad hung himself. I have been at the orphanage ever since."
We sat in silence after that. "I'm sorry." Andy said after a minute or two. "It's okay. It's been.. painful, my life." I said to him. "But I was told that this is life, and pain is just a simple compromise. Right?" I quote Paramore.
Patrick giggles, understanding my reference. The others don't get it. Patrick explains it to them and they start giggling too. We continue to talk for a little while longer. I learn that they will be staying in Virginia until tomorrow afternoon, then they are off to North Carolina.
I check my phone. 11:39. HOLY CRAP I NEED TO GO HOME.
"Why do you have to leave?" Joe asks me. Dang I must have said that out loud. "I forgot to tell the house mother that I would be home late and I have to be home by 9."
"Do you want us to drive you back?" Pete offers. "No," I decline "It isn't a very far walk from here. literally on the corner." I stand up and grab my purse, flinging it on my shoulder.
"Can we at least walk you home?" Joe asks hopefully. "One of you can. Don't you think it's a bit creepy for four grown men to walk a 14 year old girl home at midnight?"
They nod. "DIBS" Joe yells. The others groan and hug me good-bye. Joe and I walk out of the coliseum and onto the sidewalk. We walk in silence for a little while. Not an awkward or weird silence but a comfortable silence. We finally reach the dirty old building I call home.
"So you haven't been adopted since you've been here?" He randomly asks me. "No, whenever people actually come here, they adopt the little kids. They seem to like them better." I trail off.
"Well I guess I will see you later." He says to me. He holds out his hand as if I was gonna shake it. I roll me eyes and pull him into a bear hug. He chuckles and hugs me back. "Bye Bye Fro-master." I mumble into his jacket.
We release each other. He then smiles at me and walks back down the sidewalk. I smile to myself and unlock the door to the house. Tonight was a good night.
