We live in a time of war, there was no peace. everywhere they went there was the destruction and death. As children we was raised to fear everything and only attack if you was under attack yourself. Growing up in this environment would give you the idea that we would fear going outside the town walls, this was not the case with me and my friend Arthur, we had a sense of adventure. "Arthur come on wake up, we have to get out before the elders wake up." I was trying to wake him by whispering of course that didn't work so I slapped him across his face.
"TRILOGY WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING", he yelled while rubbing his face with pain.
"Shut up you told me to wake you up, if you want to be woke up gently ask Crystal."
He just stood up and walked out of his tent. I followed close behind, we did this enough to know not to talk until we got out of the town walls to insure we don't wake the elders. We got to the river where we always met up with Crystal and Atlas.
"Where are they?" Arthur asked nervously.
"I don't know, you would think after doing this for the past year they would never be late."
That's when I heard a small whisper that sounded just like Crystal. I turned very quickly to see Crystal and Atlas sitting in a large pine tree. Crystal was motioning me frantically to come to her. I was confused and that's when Atlas point a little bit down the river, there they was our worse nightmare, the bone collectors. My whole body just   stiffened up and I couldn't speak. I began shaking and was trying my hardest to get Arthur's attention without speaking.
That's when Arthur made his fatal mistake and yelled, "CRYSTALS AND ATLAS WHERE ARE YOU."
That's when I bolted to the trees not thinking about Arthur just thinking about one thing my life. When I got up to Crystal I could see absolute terror in her eyes. That's when I realized Arthur didn't follow. When I looked in the direction that Atlas and Crystal was looking I seen the horrific event take place.
The bone collectors had Arthur in a headlock and was laughing at his screams of pain. One started to knee him in his stomach till he fell to the ground in pain. That's when the other took a knife and stabbed him in the back. He was screaming and crying , "HELP ME TRILOGY PLEASE."
I couldn't do anything but just sit and watch. That's when one turned him and took a spear and it went through his lungs, he began coughing up blood but still living. The final blow was the last spear went through his heart that was when his screams was silence.
What happened next was what nightmares are made of, they began removing bones.
His chest plate and ribs and even his back bone. Once they was done they just left his body.
I felt so sick and I thought I was going to faint.
Crystal was just staring at the bloody mess that once was Arthur. Atlas just jumped from the tree and ran to the body of his best friend. He began screaming and crying "WHY, HE DIDN'T DESERVE THIS."
He began throwing rocks and hit the ground on his knees crying hysterically. Crystal jumped down and ran to Atlas, holding him and comforting him until his hysteria stopped. I just sat there still trying to figure out what had just happen. When everything had settled in I then myself ran down to the scene.
"What are we going to tell the elders?" Asked Crystal nearly crying.
"I don't know", Atlas replies catching his breath.
That's when they both turned to me, and gave me a long desperate stare. I finally spoke. "We could just tell the elders".
They was absolutely stunned. "What do you mean just tell the elders?" You could tell atlas was getting annoyed.
"Okay guys forgive me for how heartless this is going to sound but, Arthur had no family, his mother and father was killed in a violent raid about 4 years ago, both his brothers was killed about 3 months ago when the search and rescue team went missing and his little sister was kidnapped about 4 weeks ago. So he doesn't have a families heart to break and the elders have a little emotion themselves so we won't be hurting anyone When we tell them."
We all just sat around and looked at each other with heartbreak because we all knew it was true. Many hours had past and we finally decided to burry the body of our dearest friend. Atlas and Crystal dug the hole while I looked for a good enough rock to make a makeshift headstone.
"Okay the holes done." Said Atlas holding back the river of tears.
We sunk Arthur into the into the deep hole that we spent hours digging. As we began cover up his mangled body with dirt, memories of all the great times we had together clouded my head. He was always there for me when I needed him. Even after the death of his parents he didn't lose hope, when his brothers died he still didn't lose hope, and even when his little sister his last hope and even the last part of his family was kidnapped he still didn't lose hope. What hurt the most was the flashback of him dying and suffering as he screamed for me to help him, not only I couldn't help him he lost hope. We left the burial ground of our friend with heavy hearts. When we got back to the village we avoided the elders as long as possible.
