Crystal and I stared at the mans lifeless body. We were in disbelief that our friend was capable of just letting him die. We had to keep in mind that he was a demon. I looked at him and his once glistening blue eyes were now blood red. That same devilish smile was there as he looked at the body.
"What will I tell them? I was supposed to save this man." Crystal asked as tears began to build.
I held her in my arms as I rocked her back and fourth. "Shhhh it'll be okay, we can tell them that you tried but he was too far gone."
Arthur just smiled as if he was feeding off our pain.
"Come on ladies, you knew as well as I you couldn't save him."
Arthur was right but he didn't have to make him suffer.
We began to clean up the body to bring it to the family. I stroke then mans face. Arthur was right his skin was cold, but not as cold his. I cleaned all the blood up, while Crystal sewed up the large wound in the middle of the chest. After he was cleaned and prepared I recognized the face. "His name was Otis, he was a reading teacher."
Arthur appeared again, he stroked Otis's face, "welcome home Otis." He had a huge grin across his face when he said that. It was sickening to see him find so much joy in this innocent mans death.
Sleep was nearly impossible. Every time I closed my eyes I would see Arthur ripping the spear out of the mans chest, or the bone collectors ripping apart Arthur's body, or I would feel the pain of Cory beating me. I finally managed to fall asleep between all the bloody thoughts.
I woke up to Arthur standing over me, he shook me violently. "Wake up you lazy piece of trash."
I jumped and pushed him away.
"What do you think you're doing!"
Me shouting woke up Crystal and Atlas, they both jumped up to my aid.
"Calm down everyone, geesh I was just showing her how it felt when she use to wake me up."
Atlas walked over to me and sat down, "did he hurt you?"
"No he just scared me that's all."
Crystal looked at her little locket that was a watch, "its only 3:30 a.m."
Atlas stood up and walked over to the counter, "no use of us trying to go back to sleep, might as well eat before they round us up."
Crystal and I shook our heads in agreement, Arthur just walked off.
Atlas mixed up some cream of wheat while Crystal made toast.
We ate in silence.
At 5:30 a.m they gathered up us.
We quickly changed into the poor excuse of armor they gave us; I now see why most deaths is caused by stabbing through the chest. The chest plate seemed to be made out of some sort of tin, it wasn't sturdy at all. The helmet was sturdier then the chest plate, which is sad if you think about it.
We was the youngest bunch of people there; everyone looked as if they felt sorry for us, like they knew we was going to die.
There was a total of 280 warriors getting ready to fight. We started sharping our swords, making more poison tipped arrows, and praying that we wouldn't die.
I would be an archer, while Crystal and Atlas would be swordsmen.
I looked desperately around for Arthur, did he abandon us? Maybe he was just a dastardly demon that was looking to have me put to death.
We started to march to our fate.
