I couldn't stand to look Arthur into the eyes, his eyes were different. All the joy and hope that was once there was gone. Who was I kidding I wasn't looking into the eyes of my best friend, I was looking to the eyes of a demon.
He looked up at me and chuckled, he gave me a devilish smile, "you know staring isn't nice."
"Sorry I was just...." he cut me off again
"Just what? Looking at the face that you murdered?"
"No, I wanted to see you warm smile again."
He started laughing, "warm smile?"
He grabbed my hand and placed it on his face, his skin was ice cold. That's when I realized my friend was really dead, it was a real demon standing in front of me.
"I haven't had any warmth since the day you let me get brutally murdered."
I felt my stomach drop, he was like a tiny voice always reminding me that I am the reason that he is dead.
"You know I wouldn't be so mad about you letting me die if it wasn't for one thing."
I felt a little bit of hope, maybe I could regain his forgiveness, "what?"
"I knew I was going to eventually die, wether it was because of the war or sickness, but it was going to happen. All my family is dead, the family name will never continue on, I was the last hope for our blood line to continue. "
I felt sick I knew it was true, all his brothers was dead and his sister was dead, he was the only chance and I ruined it.
"You know, all your siblings is still living. You are healthy and strong. Plus you are still living. For killing me I will punish you. "
My blood ran cold, what was he planning to do. "What are you going to do?"
I was so nervous about his answer, was he going to kill me?
"Don't worry you'll see."
I didn't sleep much that night, the thought of what his punishment was going to be kept me up all night.
That morning Atlas and Crystal was up eating so kind of cream of wheat.
" good morning sleepy head." Crystal said smiling at me.
Atlas handed me a bowl and said, "eat, you need to get your strength built up, tomorrow we leave out to war."
My heart stopped, what if Arthur lied? What if he was going to let us die? I wasn't prepared for this.
Arthur walked into the room, his demon eyes looking directly at me. I felt a shiver go up my back.
"Good morning Arthur." Crystal smiled at him.
He shot her a look, she put down her head to hid her face.
Atlas went to hand him a bowl, he pushed it away.
"I'm dead, dead people don't eat."
Atlas must've forgot. He slowly put down the bowl. He looked hurt, he got up from the table and walked away.
" you know you don't have to be so rude, you was Atlas's best friend. He didn't want you to die."
"SHUT UP." He shouted very loudly.
Crystal dropped her bowl and ran out of the room crying.
It was just me and the demon I once called a best friend.
He looked at me and that same evil smirk, "you better go get fitted for armor."
" what about you?"
He picked up a knife and shoved it through his chest.
I let out a gasp, but then I realized there was no blood.
"I'm dead, I can't die again."
I kept forgetting he had died, it didn't seem real that it wasn't him standing in front of me, but a demon who seems to want me dead.
I gathered Atlas and Crystal, we walked to the Elders to get our amor. I was thankful to see Elder Seth and not Cory. My wounds still hasn't healed from the beating I took.
"Hey you three, I guess you're here for a fitting." Seth asked with a smile on his face.
We just shook our heads. Seth was the oldest of the Elders and the nicest, he wouldn't start to beat us.
After a few measurements was taken, all three of us was handed a small bundle of metal and cloth. We was sent back home, Seth told us to get plenty of rest.
When we got back Arthur was sitting in a chair propped up against the wall. He had that smirk on his face.
"I can't believe that I'll be winning the war, and you guys will get the credit, oh well the punishment I'll be giving trilogy will be payment enough."
My knees grew weak and I went to fall, Atlas caught me. Just the thought of what he could do to me made me sick.
"What punishment?"asked Atlas as he pulled me back to my feet.
"Oh you all will see."
Minutes later an injured warrior was rushed in, they was seeking the help of Crystal, she was a medic in training.
I looked over at the chair. Arthur was gone. He must've disappeared somehow. I searched the room desperately looking for him.
The medics laid the man on the table. He has a spear in his chest. He laid there and gasping for air.
"Crystal all the other medics are on the field, we have no time to help this man, put your training to use."
They rushed out quickly.
Crystal looked at the dying man laying on the table, she ran her hand down his face trying to calm him down.
Arthur appeared again and he shoved Crystal away from him.
"You can't save him."
Arthur ran his hand down his face.
" soon his skin will be cold as mine."
That's when Arthur grabbed the spear and ripped it from the mans body. He let out a terrible noise. The blood began to pour from wound worse. But moments later he was dead.
Crystals eyes grew wide as she began to cry.
Arthur was no longer our friend he was a monster.
