Thursday
Olly was crouched in the corner of the box just waiting, today. When the phine rang, he brought it down to his ear, with the absent smile she always seems to give him.
"Hey, there."
"Hi."
"How are you?"
"Mm, good."
"You sound tired."
"I am."
"Oh. I'm sorry."
"How are you?"
"Im good. It stopped raining."
"Do you not like the rain?"
"Not today."
"Okay."
"Do you want to hear a joke?"
"Hah, sure."
"Okay- what do you call a cow with no legs?"
"Oh Olly, my grandpa was telling me this one since I was born."
"But your laughing anyway! it's a good one. Just ask 'what?'."
"Okay- what?"
"Ground beef!!"
"Hahahaha"
"And you said it was old. I knew I could get you to laugh."
"Yes, bravo. You just made my day a hundred times better."
"Mission acomplished then! I'm good at this."
"Mhm, haha. Your mission was to make my day better?"
"Well, in a broad spectrum, I'm here to make your whole life better- 'cause I'm just absolutely amazing like that -But, one day at a time, right?"
"Hah! You just can't help making peoples lives great? What a struggle."
"Haha, yes! But you know- the strong must sacrifice for the weak. All in a day's work."
Her only reply was to laugh sweetly, and sigh quietly. So they sat in silence for several moments.
"Do you want to finish twenty questions?"
"...Not today."
"Okay."
"Olly?"
"Yea?"
"How much time is on the pay phone?"
"About twenty minutes, apparently."
He debated telling her that he had even brought extra coins today, but decided against.
"Okay."
"Are you sure your alright? You sound different today."
"I'm fine Olly, thanks. But I've got to go now, I'm planning on sleeping through history class."
"Hah, alright. We'll talk tomorrow?"
"Yeah. We'll talk tomorrow."
"Goodbye Charlie."
"Goodbye Olly."
